Kitchen quote shocker...

... we only JUST started looking around for kitchen quotes etc and really just visited about 3/4 showrooms and started to to get people in for quotes.
We live in Manchester in a small semi detached house, the kitchen is only 11 square metres!
So anyway we got this guy from Ultimate Kitchen Furniture in the house for OVER 3 hours, and although he did make some good designs suggestions, he obviously wanted to close the sale there and then, being very pushy, usual call to the manager etc etc. Now I'm a nice guy but I'm not going to b pushed around to make such a decision, especially when he started to mention stuff like the offer only being available today etc etc.
The units were solid built and not flat packed which is what I understand I should be looking for and appliance wise we'd keep our fridge and washing machine.
The quote was for from a "standard" £9k plus, to the £5.8k for the early slot, to the rock bottom £.£4.3k which as he said would only be available today and only if I got his available slot of 13-20 April! I told him I wouldn't decide after only having seen one person, he got quite peed off and to be honest way too pushy for my taste.
So my questions:
anyone can recommend an independant in the Manchester area and any tips to deal with Betta Living salesman who I'll be seeing tomorrow? Don't want another 3 hours bloody marathon!:rotfl:

Yes. cancel it. Visit them with your dimensions and you can leave when you decide. If you want to go with them then you can ask them to come and survey beforehand to check measurements etc.
If they only come to your house then alarm bells ring for me.Everything that is supposed to be in heaven is already here on earth.

Bettaliving: we did go to their showroom and actually we did see a style we like there, but wouldn't give us a price there.
these UKF guys also do have about 7 showrooms in the northwest although I've just googled them and the only review site I have found for them gives a very uninspiring average score of 4 reviews out of 10 of... 0.4 LOL
Their showroom in Trafford Park has been there since we moved here (about 8 years ago) so they can't be THAT bad otherwise they'd be out of business by now I'd think, maybe it was just a pushy salesman...0 -

When someone can price up a kitchen yet not tell you how much a tap costs, you're in trouble - it's based on nothing. Try them; how much is the worktop, how much is this tap, that tap?
Out of interest, how big is your kitchen and what sort of worktops does that include?Everything that is supposed to be in heaven is already here on earth.

the guy today was pricing everything separately, had loads of price lists and different ranges etc, as well as seemingly knowing how much his competitors would come out and quote me. Worktops were in laminate. In fairness to him especially at the beginning he did seem to know what he was talking about, but bearing in mind my "newbieness" on the subject. (Although I suspect by the time I'm finished I'll be a flipping expert!!! LOL, I'm a project manager and VERY anal about details etc, for example I discovered that the guy in the end hadn't quote for removal of the old kitchen....)
I'll post a very ROUGH sketch of the kitchen I did in Visio0 -
I'll check back in the morningEverything that is supposed to be in heaven is already here on earth.

is there any way to add an attachment on this forum apart from it being hosted somewhere else?
scrap that, apparently as a "new" user I can't even post links....:mad:0 -
My advice would be to stay away from betta living, they too have pushy salesmen and we have problems with our kitchen... trying to get them to come back to fix it is proving very difficult!0

thanks!
can anyone recommend a decent independent fitter in the Manchester area then at all?
PS tonight will be fun, I am prepared this time ahah0 -
home made kitchen layout, worktops are on the left wall (cooker) bottom wall (fridge) and top wall (sink and washing machine and boiler that needs incorporating) worktops are C shaped in the room, if you see what I mean.0 -
Hi all!
I have used a company called Styled Kitchens in the past, not local to machester but a very good company! Might be worth getting in touch. Check out there website! May be worth a look! Like i say a very good company based in Corby and they traveled to Luton to fit my Avonit work tops.
Good Luck any way :rotfl:0
