I went BR in Dec'08 and got a Barclays cashcard account. In Jan they upgraded my cash card to a Connect card and also registered me for online banking which I started using in February. Despite using the PinSentry thingy, it stopped working recently and I have just been into a branch to find out that I am no longer allowed Barclays Internet Banking due to being BR. Stupid thing is they gave me it when I was already BR and had stated the fact, but I guess it has now filtered through all of their computer systems and they took it away without even a letter. I get to keep my Connect card though, so it isn't all bad.

EPIC FAIL Barclays, even though I only used it for checking DDs and balance, it was useful...time to consider moving to a Co-op account.

This is worrying as they told me to start with that i could not have internet banking at the time of my application but then it all turned up apart from on set of numbers which the branch gave me. So far so good but the account would be useless to me if they take away the internet banking.

I would think that they must get authorization on all transaction or it could make you OD at the bank and if this was a possibility then we wouldn't have been given the account, I hope all transactions have to get authorization cos the last thing that I want is to go OD,also my prepaid card is mastercard so that must get athorization first as its prepaid?

If it's not Barclays who allowed the transaction to go through without authorisation, it must be the railway company. It could not have authorised that quickly.

I know what your saying but I just don't understand how a prepaid card or a connect card like what i'm getting would allow the slightest chance of me going overdrawn as I'm BR and its the lowest account barclays have

I think you should challenge Barclays on this as on there website the do not say subject to status in facy just subject to registration?

From there site:

Cash Card Account

Our basic current account - the Cash Card Account - is a simple way to manage the funds available to you.
It's easy to manage. There's no chequebook or Overdraft but you or someone else can pay money, including benefits, into the account. You can withdraw it when you want with your cash card or Connect card.

I dont know why there would take it away from you if you already had it?

I'd suggest you call them up and speak to their insolvency team. I called them this morning on the normal telephone banking number and asked to be put through to the insolvency department - they put me through and I spoke to a very helpful guy called Tim in Manchester. He explained the ins and outs of what I was allowed to keep and what I wasn't so hopefully he (or one of his colleagues) will be able to tell you what has happened here.
