Barclays cash card acc.

Sieve is correct. With the Connect card, you are able to sign up for online banking (once you receive your card). Without a Connect card, you need to go into a branch to register as the cash card does not hold the relevant details to allow you to sign up online).
I went into my branch and was told that cash card accounts only come with cash cards and cannot be used online. It may have been that way in the past but it's not now. I made them check and a Connect card came a few days later and I was able to access online banking immediately once received.
You need to order a PINsentry device (once you've set up your online access) to be able to set up payments but in the meantime, you'll be able to view your account and transactions.
Apart from the option of having a chequebook, a cheque guarantee option on your Connect card and an overdraft, there isn't really much difference from a Cash Card account and a standard Barclays current account. And all of those would be subject to status anyway.
(Looks like you replied whilst I was still writing my response!)0 -

A question tho, when I ask if I would get a connect card/debit card she said yes but its not like a debit card I would have been use too? I didn't push her on it was only glad to be getting 1 but any one here know what she meant?(hopeing to get rid of my pre paid card as it doesn't cost much to use (about a £1 atime or so and also to put money on it acan cost)so was hoping the connect card could take over from the prepaid card for things like internet shopping etc would this be the case?0

I use my connect card in shops, online differnet banks, every where! the only place i havnt is abroad. (not sure if it would work) my re-paid card didnt!
Just had another go at online banking and i HAVE MANAGED TO LOG IN!!!!! (had to put that in capitals as im so chuffed!!! after all this time i was already registered! put in my details to register and it said i already was????? then asked to verify myself with the PinSentry but you can click on another link that still lets you in (with restricted access!)
So i now have internet banking!!! going to order a pinsentry and cancel the pre-paid credit card (tuxedo £5 a month bye bye!)0 -

You should have gone for the Cashplus card, it has the raised numbers, works abroad, can be topped up free at the Post Office and even has Section 75 protection on purchases.====0 -

cheers will keep that in mind if the connect card doesn't do all I need it to, ie pay online bills that can only be paid with a debit/credit card,I think that might be the only thing the connect card might not be able to do?0 -

I have a feeling it might not work in train station ticket machines and pay@pump petrol stations but when I get a chance to test these things out I will let you know

As I understand it, Barclays issues two main types of debit card. One is the Connect card and the other is the Connect Electronic card. For the Cash Card account, you get a Connect Electronic (even though it doesn't actually say this on the card). A Connect Electronic card does not have a cheque guarantee function. I suspect that whilst it may act like a Visa Debit card, it could have a lower authorisation limit (or possibly even no limit, meaning it will need to get an authorisation to complete the transaction). It may also depend on the store or retailer's own floor limit (which is an amount they allow to go through without authorising the transaction).
I doubt it will affect you at most outlets. Some retailers do not accept the Electron card full stop but may accept Visa Debit with and without authorisation.0
