For usa its definately better to use the 0870/0844 numbers on o2 as it charges a lot less if you run out of minutes...

tOpCaT, sorry to be rude, but what is the point of using it from your work phone, for calls to USA? Even if you are not paying the firm's phone bill, you could be less wasteful and use an 0844 number instead, from a wide range of suppliers including Simply-Fone.
Erm... I should have thought that was obvious! I tried it from my work phone to test if the number was working. I didn't actually place a call to the USA, I just checked to see if I got through to Simplyfone or if I got the engaged tone. The test went something like this:

Try Simplyfone from O2 mobile - engaged tone.
Try Simplyfone from work phone - get through.
Try Simplyfone from O2 mobile - engaged tone.

All in the space of about 30 seconds. This made me think that O2 were wise to it and were blocking it somehow, although of course that's not necessarily the case.

Jarlawuk: Luckily I have 1000 x-net minutes, so I don't ever run out of minutes! ;) Good advice though.

O2 no about it.If they were to bar it an awful lot of people would go elsewhere!!!

DayTime the service is very busy anyway because a lot of destinations can only be called during day. Also Friday is the last chance in the week that people can call some of the more popular destinations for a couple of days.
So you can get quite a bit of congestion dialling it via mobile networks during these times.

I was given the following Simply-fone number from a friend 07744 which has worked really well from my 02 mobile. However, I'm wondering why there are different numbers mentioned on here - do they stop working after a period and continually changed?

***Board Guide note: An official source to a number must be given, a friend is not an official source***
