thanks for all the replies i am just now starting t otake more of an interest in what chemicals we use i suppose its all stemmed from wanting to go organic on the food side of things which i'm trying to do.
Other women want a boob job. Honey the only silicone i'm interested in is on a 12 cup muffin tray, preferably shaped like little hearts

You could always be brave and try doing a conditioner only wash when you wash your hair.

The idea came from here and i found a forum discussing it here. I dunno whether i am brave enough to try it though.

I recommend giving the conditioner only route a go. It works for me, I havent used shampoo in quite a few months. I use either my homemade soap or conditioner only.

I have stupidly thin hair and was worried about all the chemicals in shampoo making it thinner :-(
  • Been into Boots today and got some bath foam by a company called Naked Bodycare. It was reduced to £1.25 for 300ml. The blurb on the back reads
'never, ever contains Parabens, Petrochemicals or Sodium Laureth sulfate' Not tried it yet, but it sounds good. Their website address is https://www.nakedbodycare.co.uk. When I've used some (tonight if we can get the central heating fixed) I'll report back.
  • Managed to get the heating fixed for long enough to fill the bath! The foam bath is really nice, not much smell - I guess they'd probably call it lightly fragranced! - so good for blokes as well. My skin didn't feel dry when I got out, so it's a thumbs up from me.

This is the product range I use for both my kids and myself, it has no chemical nasties :j

You can get it in Tesco, it's not with the shampoos, it's usually near the baby products but not with them, I don't know why.

Has anyone ever considered using an alternative to shampoo - or just using water to wash their hair?

A young girl I know had problems with her hair (some hair loss/thinning and scalp problems) and was advised to stop washing it with shampoo. She devised a concoction containing natural ingredients (an exotic fruit is one ingredient) and uses this to wash her hair just once a week. She said she was embarrassed by the greasiness of her hair for the first week or two (no-one else noticed, so it can't have been that bad) but she's glad she persevered as now her hair is lovely, in good condition and shiny and is starting to grow back thicker.

Has anyone else tried something similar?

Shampoos are very harsh on the hair and strip it of it natural oils. I go on another forum and the girls on there swear by a 'condition only' wash. Using the cheapest conditioner you can find (so that it has no silicones in it) just wash your hair with the conditioner and rinse. You cannot use expensive conditions with silicone in it as it coats the hair and you will get build up as you are not washing it out with shampoo.

I've done it and it worked quite well. I didn't like the feeling of my hair after one particular wash though so I sometimes use shampoo - but not always. You do not get a greasy stage with the condition only wash.

My hair is better behaved and less frizzy than it was before.

Years ago I tried Timotei (sp) shampoo and my hair started coming out in huge chunks! I was very alarmed for a while, but once I changed to another brand it went back to normal.

    Hiya ;)

We have a very similar thread just a few days old that discusses aspects of alternates to using shampoo and so I have added your post to it.

Since posts are listed in date order you will need to read from the beginning to catch up.
