Thanks Nykmedia & Skint Lynne for the welcome.

    I am in rural lincolnshire.

I need to curb my spending. I don't know where the money goes.

My master plan is to have a small cottage near the sea. Don't know if it will ever happen but everyone needs a dream.

SL, you know you're welcome to visit anytime - just accept the fact that I'll never be anything but [STRIKE]loopy[/STRIKE] eccentric. :rotfl:

Ram, good luck with the house viewing and stick to your guns if you get as far as making an offer on any of them. You'll get the one that's meant for you :)

Maslowe, keep the dream, it can happen and it needn't cost a fortune if you can make the most of what's available at any given time. Find out where the money goes and then redirect it towards debtfree frugal living with a veggie patch to supplement the grocery shopping, then you're half way there. :) If your veggie patch is nothing more than a planter with a few salad leaves & radishes, learn to love salad leaves and radishes. :D

    Good morning :)

Good luck SM! You already know we have everything crossed for you here :) 'Jolly' says moooooo, she stopped to say so on the way past the gate when the girls were walking her back to the field. They had little Milly with them too, but I'd to get the bucket of water and brush out after they'd gone. :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

Not much to report here today. I need to nip into town for some essentials and then I'll try my best to get work out of the way (or set aside for later) so I can get into the garden again this afternoon. Should be a good, frugal drying day, too.

Bank holiday weekend coming up soon - what's everyone got planned?

Big on-line crafting event this weekend - but on an American site, so rather than 12 noon Friday to 9pm Saturday (for them), it's 8pm Friday to 5am Sunday for me

And Sunday is Craft Day on one of the shopping channels - so I'll have to be back up by 9am Sunday to watch that right through until Midnight.

So Monday is likely to be spent sleeping :rolleyes2

At least I'll not be able to go shopping though ;)

Shaz! I could have asked the landlord if you could pitch your tent in next door's vacant garden! :rotfl:That way you could pop along to see that interesting house I told you about that would be great for you with its acre of garden and ponds that I could fill with ducks. :D Or maybe you and Maslowe could set up the Lincolnshire branch of Frugaldom?

  • morning all,

Hoping to get some more pesky weeds removed from my veggies today if the rain stops long enough. Yesterday realised that the first radishes i planted are ready...sad but im thrilled they are so easy. lettuces not far off and spring onions bringing up the rear. Looks like salad on for the summer. all veg doing well so far. Hubby has built himself a sort of shed from scrap timber and seems to be getting into this outdoor stuff way too easily. If you knew my hubby you wouldnt believe it. Also trying to get cuttings etc from plants in the garden to plant else where and possibly try selling a few at the gate . Has anyone else sold things like this? does it work? Every penny will help at the moment and i live near a main road.
Off to plan meals, find some new recipes of the grocery challenge and decide what else i can do or try.

    have a good day all
RAM- congratulations on your weightwatchers goal. Got mine a few months ago but have put 3lbs on over easter so getting back into it now.

Hi FMF, glad your OH has taken to outdoor life so well! That's excellent. I've known several people sell at their garden gate, whether for themselves or charity. Some just use an 'honesty box' for customers to drop money in whilst helping themselves. I guess it would depend where you lived if this would work, though. It wouldn't work for me, I get nobody passing my gate except the farmer and any delivery drivers that might happen to be here. :rotfl: Good luck, I think it sounds like you are doing exceptionally well and hope all your good work reflects well in your budget. :)

:jPostman just delivered my freebie BBC seeds, so I'm going to get the butternut squash in today, as I've never grown it before - or eaten it! :o It's something else that I can grow to love as part of my quest for healthy, homegrown produce. DGD will be happy with the stickers that came with the seeds, so I'll pop them in with the library pack SM got for me :)

New hen settled in well, she's now being shown around the place by the others. Not quite sure where they are at the moment as I can't see them under the hedge - I suspect they've arrived at the new potato patch!

Washing's on, sun's coming out to play and I've finished printing off today's work - it's looking incredibly quiet for this month, possibly the quietest over the past year or so!
Grow veggies, grow, before my income dries up completely!

Forgot to add in - anyone who uses Costco (SM, SL etc) could someone price the gallon containers of vinegar for me please? I'd like to pickle some of the boltardy beetroots if they all grow. I planted loads this year as I love beetroot.

My BBC seeds came on Friday (as did DD's and both sets for GDs), but I've no idea where to plant them yet.

Think I've just about given up all ideas to grow my own crops this year though -- too much else going on with the house de-clutter, and really need to have the whole garden 'landscaped' first (otherwise I'll be spending a small fortune on containers that will then be looking for new homes next year when I get my raised beds -- and I've not really got the space that the garden could be done around containers either :( )

The Butternut Squash is one I'm particularly keen to try - I got a recipe for a thick veg soup from a Cranks cookbook a few years back, and the main ingredient is either pumpkin or b'nut Squash. I make a huuuge batch and freeze in portions (no-one else in the family likes it), but can happily survive for weeks at a time with this as my lunch every day :T
