:hello: Gem,
Respite is a place of care as I used to go into Respite and its for parents to have a break and I used to go to a house to stay for Respite for a week so I was looked after and fed and I treated it like a holiday,Now I can look after myself and dont need Respite anymore.
This explains what Respite is:

Hi everyone,
How are we all going today? Yesterday I managed at work. Think that is best description. Had to hold the tears back all day. Talked alot to one of my best friends who understands what I'm going through and doesn't judge me. Then after work decided to go to the pub with my closest friend to talk through the world, I wasn't drinking but she was...turned into a funny evening, I love her to bits and wouldn't cope without her!! Met some of her friends who I was able to talk to like I've known them for year, most unlike me.
Said last week I was annoyed with someone as they said I looked better and I was laughing at something. Turns out she has been bad mouthing me, saying how can I claim to be depressed when I was able to laugh and was "giving it big???" I was simply commenting that being made redundant and change of role and its upside due to a change in a policy that would no longer be my problem. Why do some people have to be so nasty, or rather ignorant. Anyway my best friend put her straight, said can you seen inside her? Did you see the darkness in her eyes? As said above, don't know what would do without her.
Went for a Subway for lunch with OH....yum yum! Then the rain hammered down, but brightened up again now. Not sure what plans are tomorrow, will make most of it as OH back to work on Sunday
Today I feel that some of darkness lifted. Still got sore throat, think my tonsils winning battle against the anti biotics. I know they don't like taking them out but suffered a bit with tonsilitis over last few years, they say its worse when you are older.
Going to have some pasta now, catch you later.
Have a relaxing evening and take care of yourselves.

What a load of rubbish some people speak! So ignorant! I have got a video of myself smiling and laughing and sitting with some relatives "enjoying" myself. My OH and I can see looking at it though that I look quite panicked and as though Im about to burst into tears. To someone that doesn't know me, they would think I was just drinking and having a great time.:(
People like this don't matter. Just realise its your friends who are on your side are the ones that are important. What a great friend she is to say what she did in your defence!0 -
Hope you get your shared housing, RBK. My fingers are crossed for you.
Glad to hear you are getting on with your boyfriend, Tulip!
Wish the rain would stop - couldn't take the dogs for a walk today. Im glad Ive got dogs because otherwise I just wouldn't bother going out at all - certainly not for a walk anyway!0 -

I've not been on this thread before. I have (hopefully) started on the road to recovery having been off work since last July with clinical depression.
The dog has saved me - ok maybe not saved but she has really helped... I have a springer spaniel called Poppy and because of her I've had to go out everyday and face the world. Beachbeth, I know how you feel, the walks really do help the mind and I personally enjoy the quiet and fresh air.
EM xxYou can discover more about a person in an hour of play than in a year of conversation.

Thanks beachbeth, its too true, you do realise who your friends are in these times, especially the dark days. Little things said by the ignorant can hurt so much and bring the tears of sadness, but the little things said by my two closest friends bring the happiness, or tears of joy that people can be so special.
Welcome Elliesmum, may your road to recovery continue smoothly. Jealous of you and beachbeth having dogs, used to love dognapping my neighbours dogs when younger and going for long walks. I rarely walk by myself. I have my two cats...they are enough work for me at times. Hope the weather ok for you both tomorrow on your walks.

I have no firsthand knowledge of depression but thought this might be helpful:

The hormones leptin and ghrelin were only discovered in the 1990s so much of the science is new. Read the home page and the rules if you want to find out how to get those hormones to work for you.0 -
