    Happy New Year everyone.

Sorry to hear of your cat Amber and all those with relationship and family troubles, I hope they improve soon.

My cat has seen through Christmas and New Year, but it won't be long now. It's knowing when to do the right thing. At the moment, she is lethargic, but she is still eating little bits and drinking plenty and purrs alot. I'm surprised she has got this far. Every day is a bonus now.

    Speak soon.

Im so glad your cat made it through Christmas, Miro. Give her a hug from me. I hope she isn't feeling too bad. Its difficult when you know they haven't got long but as long as you give them all the love you can thats the main thing.

Thanks for the replies about my book-recommending query. Here's a quick summary of what was my situation:

About 5 years ago I had a major op. I was pretty ill afterwards and it has left me with an irregular heart-beat (lots of missed beats, basically). I was told they are harmless, but the incident seemed to trigger a massive health obsession in me, and I became very anxious about my heart, having huge panic attacks, almost agoraphobic at times. I was convinced I was about to drop dead. All logic went out the window.

I read loads on the internet which led me to the following books. The first is a bit dated, but really comforting. The others are basically cognitive therapy, but I found the exercises in them useful for helping me get things in perspective:

Self Help for Your Nerves - Dr Claire Weekes. Lots of aniexty sufferers swear by this book. It was my bible for about a year. I took it everywhere.

Feeling Good: The New Mood Therapy - Dr David Burns

The Worry Cure: Stop worrying and Start Living - Robert L. Leahy

I did read quite a few books but these were the most helpful. They are aimed at the symptoms of depression as well as anxiety.

I found some good web sites with exercises to print out too. I will post these when I get chance. This was quite a good one:

    http://www.anxietynetwork.com/helphome.html

I printed out the statements from it about Automatic Negative Thoughts and used to read through them when I felt bad:

I hope people find these ideas useful.

  • Congratulations CC - do you have a talent for photography?

Bubbles - I doubt your brothers hate you, and if they do have any issues with you, it's their problem. Besides, we all know men never remember birthdays!

Miro - I hope your cat's final days are peaceful. Talking of cats, my foster kitty Lulu lived up to her name by falling into the loo today when she jumped up on the seat :rotfl:

Me and DD2 are having chicken curry too! Its a recipe I make and I always put some in the freezer for another time. The one we're having is one Ive already made and defrosted so I haven't got to cook apart from doing the rice and some chips!

Its OH's birthday today (old fart - he's 49! Lol) and he has been fancying what he calls cheese and potato pie. Its basically mashed potato with cheese mushed in. He has it with a couple of sausages, so Im going to do it for him for his birthday.

Im not very well myself though. Had diarrhoea since Monday 28th Dec. Been trying the usual things to get rid of it - eating a bland diet and taking the chemist remedies etc. Nothing is working so Im at the docs tomorrow. I rang up Monday and, because I wanted a particular doctor, couldn't get an appointment until tomorrow. The other doctor in the practice makes me feel uncomfortable and I always feel as though he's laughing at me or thinks Im a hypochondriac or something. Ive either got a food intolerance or my anti-d's are upsetting my system.
