We have a Compaq Presario 2100, which has started losing the power/battery icon from the tray!
Have tried checking the box in the advanced tab in power options. Sometimes it reappears, but then disappears again on reboot. grrrr... its driving me mad
Anyone any ideas please to put me out of my misery?

Is your mains supply connected to the laptop??If the Mains input jack to the laptop or mains supply becomes disconnected then the battery icon will appear as it will switch to the internal battery for power.0

For me the volume icon and sometimes the battery (or power) icon disappear for no obvious reason whatsoever. I use a Medion Laptop but I guess this Windows and its mysterious ways.Do I want it? ......Do I need it? ......What would happen if I don't buy it??????0

It happens whether we're running on battery or mains. Sometimes I can get it to reappear, but it still goes missing when I reboot!

Thanks lightstorm and Aiadi for your interest.
I think the main offender is the battery icon. Have been doing all sorts of experiments with this. I have found that if you log off, then logg on again, the icons reappear! It's a bit of a fiddle, but at least it restores it. :jIrene0 -
If you have XP, the icon might be hiding as XP hides inactive icons. There is an arrow which hides them.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Quick Grabbit, Freebies, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning and the UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards.

I've done a quick rumage around and other complaints from this seem to direct towards this.... http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?kbid=283084
HOWEVER, this involves editing your registry and can properly mess up your computer! Only do it if you know what you are doing, or you dont really care about your computer......0 -
Hi Heather
You may have seen my latest post. You are right, I do have XP. I did check for that possibility. I don't know whether I love or hate computers!!
Thanks anywayIrene0 -
Hi Steve
I am terrified of delving in the registry. Have had a look at the page you suggested, but don't think have the nerve to try it. I did download and run a program recommended on this site called TweakNow Regcleaner, but that is as far as I think I can go.
ThanksIrene0
