help - am I gonna be charged internat instead of free for 0844 on o2?
I'm new to this and following this site have secured the "o2 250 xnet 12 month contract with free handset and 12 months cashback" deal. Phone came this morning (v good customer service from the sellers so far). However I wanted to test whether I really can use my minutes to dial 0844.
Firstly, you need to know that whilst I signed up for 02 250 (50 texts) with the dealer, I have been put onto 02 business 250 (50 texts). I've spoken to o2 (fantastic customer service) who have told be the two tariffs are the same except that the standard o2 250 now includes 100 texts - I'm not bothered about that as I only signed up for 50 - and I guess the retailer is doing it this way as they must get more comission from selling business tariffs as you would expect users to make tons more calls - o2 offered to switch me onto the standard o2 250 if I wanted but decided not to as dealer will most likely see this as a tariff change and refuse cashback!!! - am hoping there are no minor difference that will come back to haunt me!!
Anyway, did my trial international call this morning - dialed 0844etc and then the international number. But I'm panicking a bit cause I can't check my bill with o2 for 48 hrs to see how I've been charged and on the handset screen when the line was ringing, it DID NOT have the 0844 number but had the internat number instead - also in CALL REGISTER the internat number is showing up as having been called for the actual duration that I was ringing through abroad.
What do you think - is this how it always looks when you use 0844? The lady at o2 mentioned that she thought I would be charged either as an internat call or that me 0844 call would be billed as a non-inclusive call as she'd had a similar case that day but the number she mentioned wasn't 0844 but more like 087something.
Is this trial call going to cost me a fiver or something - not very money saving in the end am I!!!

When you dial your International destination number through an access number - dial it in Intl Format followed by # only (do NOT press 'call' after your destination number).
As long as you did this you should be ok.You can also use 07744 dial through access numbers using your x-net minutes on this tariff.PF.0 -
This is a common problem. If you pressed the green "call" button on your phone after dialling the 0844 number, and then again after dialling the actual number you wanted, you would have put the call to the 0844 number into the "hold" condition and then gone on to dial the international number directly. The result will be that you will see a charge for the call to the 0844 number coming out of your bundle, and will will also receive a charge for the call to the international number at your service providers prevailing tariff. It's like having two calls in progress simultaneously.
When using routing digits you must remember to only press the green "call" button just once during the full dialling process.0 -
I'm pretty sure that you won't get charged. I'm on same tariff since august 2005 and using the whole airtime to call international destination via 0844 number and never got charged.0

No, the poster should not get charged as the calls would come out of the bundled minutes. But she would be charged if she pressed the green "call" button more than once duing the whole dialling sequence.0 -
Have you tried dialling the intl number direct? Ring it and see if you get call barred or if it rings. If it is barred all good and well. If not, wait for the bill.0

I think this first time, the OP may unforunately have been charged the int'l call as well, if it appears in the call register.
To avoid the natural tendency to press send at the end of entering the second number, compose both numbers with a pause character between, then Send. Numbers can be stored like this as well, unlimited in the phone, but sometimes it seems only 2 or 3 allowed on the SIM0 -
thank you all - think i pressed send twice - what is a pause character please?0

The pause character is something you can insert between two sets of numbers. It introduces a delay of a few seconds between dialling one number and then the other number. The reason for introducing the delay is so that the first number can connect properly before the second number is dialled.
To store a pause between two numbers you would press the * key on your telephone keypad, keeping your finger on the button until you see the letter 'p' displayed on the phone. Each pause introduces a delay of about 3 seconds.0 -
