The House Prices, economy and recession board

I entirely appreciate why the forums can't be moderated but does anybody with any authority read this board? It's a complete joke and, frankly, the antithesis of the rest of this forum.
As a regular of the house buying board, I've watched house prices become a sub board and now a main board and it's just grown out of control. I cannot see how anyone that isn't a regular to the board could really feel invited or comfortable posting there at all; in fighting, insults, abusive comments galore, users openly admitting multiple accounts etc a huge proportion of threads degenerate into nonsense and many are started as nonsense in the first place.

I couldn't agree more. I dip into most boards & post if I think I have something relevant to say, but I dont think I've ever posted in there nor am I likely to. Too scared!
It comes across a a clique, which has it's own style of posting & language used & I for one don't get it. I cannot see the purpose of this board so I tend to ignore it.Thanks to all who post comps :A :T0 -
Agree with you.
The problem is there is no moderation
the problem is that in that board there are about 5 genuine people and about a million aolteregos.
If someone moderatyed it and removed all the alters, then there would be just probably, er me posting. Its totally out of hand and someone needs to do somethingabout it, its hugely embarrassing that this dross is in martins name. Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.
Theres no dollar sign on piece of mind
This Ive come to know...
So if you agree have a drink with me, raise your glasses for a toast :beer:0 -
I like the board, usually, and although I sometimes struggle with the 'robust nature' of discussion there, its also very informative. But something has gone very haywire ATM, and if there is a way to stop it I'd be pleased. But I don't see how it can be 'controlled' on an unmoderated site. The use of multiple log ins is totally bizarre and while in the passed it hasn't bothered me its become disruptive in the extreme. I doubt any new joiner venturing in there this weekend would return0

I still think it's the most interesting board on the forum. Occasionally you get real wit, and I just find myself going back there time and time again. Yes, there are some strange people there, and all the sock puppets, but it's still funnier than a lot of other places.
By the way, for cliqueyness, try the DFW Board.

I was going to edit my post, but thought I'd quote your's instead.
Some really valuable contributers are there, as well as real wits. I've been encouraged to read around subjects I know little or nothing about and understand how they link into things I am more interested in. I've had my eyes opened to different political opinions, and to people's different situations in a way that is truely of value to me, and in some cases, has changed my opinions, but in very many cases has developed my understanding and challenged my views, and made me more educated.
I think because some of the subjects are so very improtant to people the homour and the 'relationships' almost soften the differences of dearly held ideals...and that 'colleagiate' nature of joking withing disagreement, is valuable. I hold my hands up to often trying to use homour to diffuse 'situations' there.
When the jokes and alternate log ons become disruptive and almost 'bullying'- a word I'm loathe to use as its an online forum and we can at anytime switch off- its less palatable, and its only with great reluctance I have to agree with Doozergirl somewhat: it seems, ATM certainly, a little out of control.0 -
I agree with the OP about the sort of posts that are on that board. Some of the regular posters behave like a group of hyenas, fighting gleefully over every bit of bad news that reinforces their negative view point of the world around them.
The board should be renamed "Moans and Groans".:pMortgage started July 2010 = £223,314

Hi everyone
As you know we don't moderate the forum at all so any issues on that board need to be reported to abuse@ in the usual way.
Thanks!

Sorry Andrea that just won't work, and will be pretty pointless. There are so many multi ID Trolls on that forum, removing one or two won't make any difference. Until your IT dept can start blocking IP addresses, it's not worth posting on that Forum. Go and spend a day or two looking at it, and you'll see what all the complaints are about!

Hi folks,
Please see my post http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?p=20222965#post20222965
As for multiple IDs and trolls Andrea is right. We just by posts, so please report those posts. IPs can be blocked and are sometimes, but that doesn't necessarily stop sophisticated people with multiple IDs.

Sophisticated? Too complimentary an adjective imho.
May I flag up this example so that others, Admin and members, are aware of what may be an increasing problem:

My reading/posting on one Board allowed me to spot - what I believe to be someone with a multiple identity - posting on another Board - one which requires a level of sensitivity - and not potential mischief making - as I believe was evident in this case.If many little people, in many little places, do many little things,
they can change the face of the world.
