Hubby bought me a pair of heated USB gloves for when I'm at the PC. They're fingerless, but with a mitten type flap that you can put over the fingers.
They're not bad, but I did find having a cable running from each hand was restrictive.
I also tried wearing fingerless gloves around the house, as my hands get very cold and then the cold travels up my arms and my lips turn blue! But I found that I had to keep taking them off to do things like the washing up, going to the loo, cooking etc, so gave up on them and had to put the heating on when I felt my arms getting cold.0 -
The fingerless gloves sound good to me, maybe when all the housework's done nd your settled in front of the telly at night.........:cool:I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Old style MoneySaving boards.

Barneysmom wrote: »Virkon tablets, supposed to be for use in labs and vets for intense germ, fungus and virus killing, was really good for getting the mould off the bedroom wall and it hasn't come back (you need gloves and open windows for this stuff).
Just found this great thread
Barneysmom, where did you get the Virkon tablets from please? Sounds like just what I need, did you buy them online or in-store? TIA0 -

I would also be interested in these but when I did a search for them on EBay I got a few results. Does it matter if they are for poultry or aquatic?0 -
I don't think so, but remember they are specialist and you do need gloves on and ventilate the room well as you are working.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Old style MoneySaving boards.

my airing cupboard has wasted space so what we've done is put a couple of rails in so i can dry clothes in there instead of using the tumble dryer or having it hang around the house.

Friends of mine found out last year that turning the heat down too low can be a false economy. Hubby got flu at Christmas which developed into pneumonia. Eventually he had to have surgery to drain his lungs. He is only in his fifties, never feels the cold.
I've been reading web pages trying to find the optimum room temperatures for health. I found out that condensation on cold outside walls encourages mould spores, which are in themselves a health hazard. Apparently the living room should be 21°C, the bedroom 18° (70F/64F) My bedroom certainly gets a lot colder, as our warm air heating makes such a racket during the night that I turn it off. No wonder I get sinusitis every winter.

Poor him, I had flu last January which developed into pneumonia and I was hospitalised for a week. I'm allergic to mould spores, and have something called Allergic Broncho Pulmonary Aspergillosis (try saying that after a few drinks! :rotfl:) which makes my asthma symptoms worse. I live in a lovely warm house though, but it makes no difference at all. According to my consultant it's the mould spores outside that get you a lot of the time, eg in rotting leaves, and short of locking yourself away all winter you can't really avoid them. I suppose you just have to weigh up what is most important to you, I love kicking about in autumn leaves with the kids, and will put up with the odd asthma attack in order to do so.0 -

That's probably part of his problem, they live in a really rural location.
