What form of heating do you have, Scotty.
Also we need to know the precise tariff you are on, probably 'fixed 2009'.
And is the 2498 ...kwh's or meter units...am guessing kwh.

At 27478 kwh's (Metric meter)for gas and 6775 for electric on nPower fixed 2009 for your postcode is £1403 per year.
    Way cheaper than anything else.
Your figures are not average, way over the top.
Recheck the figures you have given and confirm that the meter is metric.
Can be compared another way, what type of property, how many bedrooms, am guessing Edinburgh Castle.

Shouldn't be much difference, though, unless some have changed prices and others haven't. I suppose some will kick in at the end of this month so you'd need to check websites to be sure. If ken's research is correct, you're left with options of living with the bills or cutting back.

You use way more electricity than us (family of six including four carbon fiends) using washing machine and dishwasher most days but cooking by gas. We use more gas than you (31000kwh a year) in a three bed, poorly insulated house on three floors. We're not wasteful but high users - like the house warm and kids use TV, x box etc a lot. So, I agree with ken - your figures do look high.

Hi Scotty..there is a more elaborate way of comparing.
Size of property large/small house, flat, terrace, whatever, whether gas or electric for cooking, how many bedrooms, how many occupants, how well insulated, do you like a warm house.
The national average is 20500 for gas and 3300 for electric. Just inputting Large House brings up a figure of £1243, still cheaper than anything else. Otherwise if figures are correct £1403. Your DD's show you are paying £1524 p.a. More info needed.

Also is it a single meter, seems so.
