I felt the strain in Ireland last month, effin h*ll its expensive. We were in Limerick so not even Dublin prices.

Agreed, it's very expensive. I stay just outside Dublin and it makes the UK look cheap, the cost of things like computers etc.. is unbelievable.

We hold a Euros account, with about half our savings in it, so we're possibly seeing a little benefit to the rates as we might be transfering to sterling soon.

92 cents for a quid! - you were being robbed mate.

£6 quid a pint! - you were being robbed here as well mate.

If you work the beer out on the basis that it's usually served in 0.2 litre glasses I think you'll find that price normal.

Were off to Malaysia in a few weeks, we expect that to be reliatavely cheap (4* hotels around the 25 qiud mark) we honestly couldnt afford 2 weeks holiday in Europe now. But its great thatour continental freinds are coming here! I must say I was on oxford st the other day and there were LOADS of tourists and we are not even into summer season yet.

A family friend is returning to Malaysia today. She withdrew Sterling from her bank her to have changed by a money changer in Malaysia and says it works much better that way -part of a long and boring discussion about the pluses and minuses of life in multiple currencies:o. For a holiday you might not want to bother doing that though :)

We are avoiding the eurozone this yr for our holidays - we have been to Marrakech, Eqypt and now looking at Croatia. The exchange rate simply makes it too expensive. I guess places like Turkey will do well this summer as they dont have the Euro.
The US will not do well this yr either with the dollar-pound exchange rate, we went to Vegas in March last yr and got $2-£1, we wont return until we get decent rates again (havin said that i think we were extremly lucky with the dollar!)

I love Eastern Europe and fortunately it always makes for a cheaper holiday compared to the Euro. I can highly recommend Montenegro and Albania in particular for summer hols. This year I've been to Budapest, am off to the USA next week, and am having my main holiday in Croatia this year.

Me and my partner were the same Minibear. Went July 2007 and got nearly $2 to £1. Happy Days!:D

We are going to benidorm in 5 weeks. It was £190 self catering but instead we paid £100 more to go Half Board. Only have to have lunch out then which wont be a massive strain on the cash if we stock up at breakfast time

I guess a good option if you do want to go somewhere in Europe at the moment is an All Inclusive holiday. However we were in Rhodes around the end of September last year, the local government wants to put a ban on any more All Inclusive hotels opening up as they are totally killing the local tourist trade, and it’s something the island heavily relies on. I feel sorry for a lot of these islands/countries that rely so heavily on the Brits holidaying abroad.

And that does not affect maestro cash cards ..
