Saying that I'm a computing student, so I feel I should have known better! Ah well.
#include <stdio.h>

main()
!!
int days;
int wattage;
int pperunit;

int cost;

printf( "Enter the number of days the sod will be away: " );
scanf( "%d", &days );

printf( "Enter the wattage of the bulb: " );
scanf( "%d", &wattage );

printf( "Enter the cost per unit (average) in pence: " );
scanf( "%d", &pperunit );

cost = days * 24 * pperunit * wattage / 1000;

if ( cost % 100 < 10 ) !!
printf( "The cost will be %d pence, or £%d.0%d\n",
cost, cost / 100, cost % 100 );
}
else !!
printf( "The cost will be %d pence, or £%d.%d\n",
cost, cost / 100, cost % 100 );
}
}

Edit: The forum is changing my open braces. But a computing student should be able to work it out.

Wow, now I feel stupid!

Ah well. Had no idea it was that cheap really.

Cheap? It's not cheap and it's an utter waste.
Get it switched off. Are you sure they're not dead in there?
• Leaving a tap on is cheap.
It costs about 1p per thousand litres when you use a metered supply..
I have been in restuarants which charge £3 per litre for bottled water.
Just shedding some light on another utility supply.

.............................Substitute £1 for 1p in line two

1,000 litres is 1 cubic metre = the amount a water bill is measured by.

At my last house the price to get the water in AND out on my meter was £9/1,000 litres.

You pay for water in - and they make a judgement on sewage based on how much water you receive.

You beat me to it. I wish it was 1p/1000 litres but it's actually 1p for each litre...at least round here in the midlands it is.
:footie:
:p Regular savers earn 6% interest (HSBC, First Direct, M&S) :p Loans cost 2.9% per year (Nationwide) = FREE money. :p
• Loving the thread I've started even if it is based on my own inexperience *cough* stupidity *cough*

By the way RHemmings, who writes in C these days. Pfft. I'm doing my final year project in c# ;) Most the hard stuff's already done!

Landlord came round and turned it off. Turns out he's not dead in the room, but has really gone home!

People write in C when real-time performance is necessary.

As for C#, why use a second rate Java when the original is available?
