Virgin Media for existing customers?

It seems Virgin Media don't care much for existing customers especially when it comes time to renew, a better package deal with them for TV, Broadband, Telephone.

I have been a VM customer for a number of years now, even before it was called Virgin Media, Telewest, etc. It seems to me as an existing customer they don't care about providing existing customers with a good solid service with value for money even in a recession!

I wrote to VM a couple of days ago, telling them I am thinking of switching services because it has become too expensive for what it is a customer representative called me today and offered me a new 'package' deal.

All I wanted was a Telephone + Broadband package deal, and forget the TV as it is rubbish. The best I was offered keeping in mind I have been a customer for 10+ years is Broadband 20MB service (which I already have) + Landline Telephone (Unlimited) package with basic 'freeview' TV for £39.95 a month.

Now this may sound like a good deal but considering I already pay £54.75 a month for (20MB Broadband) + Same Telephone package & currently get the XL TV package it's a complete rip-off, £39.95 a month + £11.00 line rental = £50.95 - a saving of £3.80 a month!! Wow!

It would have kinder to kick me square in the balls, saving £3.80 is a complete insult! I have looked on the VM website and offer new customers bundle deals nearly £5-6 pounds cheaper than what I am paying with the newer 50MB Broadband service, XL Telephone.

I won’t be letting this go even if I have to speak every manager under the VM roof, if new customers can have 12-month term deals I don’t see why existing customers should be penalised. Out of curiosity what is any-one else paying a month for VM services?

Thanks! :)

There's a few threads on this already and everyone seems to be equally peeved with VM - they really have some PR issues when it comes to new customers.

I've started my 30 day notice period and told them I want to be disconnected. They have contacted me once to offer me a better offer than their original one but its still not good enough.

Some people say they have been contacted a couple of times during the notice epriod and finally got some good deals. It does seem, however, that VM are being less accommodating now than they were.

I think you would be better talking to them on the phone, rather than writing. I negotiated our package to half the price that it was before. Now paying around £45 for internet, TV and phone (all 01 and 02 calls free).

I've always found them pretty good. Just recently got my £25/month broadband deal reduced to £18/month, then signed up to ebills which reduced it to £17/month. Also been a customer over 10 years.

Are you sure you need to add on the line rental - is the £39.95 not the complete cost - that would more tie in with what I pay

Gordon. I need to check this with VM actually. I'm not sure I was told by a friend it isn't included but I need to definitely check with VM on this, I would assume you're probably right and the £11.00 line-rental is inclusive.

Once I find out I'll let you know! Thanks!

They are not playing ball. Giving new customers better deals than you as long standing customer. What an insult. Why don't you just leave them? Go to Sky, they are doing pretty good deals these days and at least you won't have your broadband traffic shaped as Virgin do.

TBH I don't see why you wouldn't take a tv package with them, even if it's a free one. It gives you the same channels as freeview or freesat does, with a few variations. Always find it's better to call up retentions rather than call them.
