    Seriously though Humphrey,

What did you expect would happen by posting up triumphantly,

Do you think I should get the sack??

Us all to bow down to greater regulation and be amazed at how wonderful your job is for our society.

You asked for it, and you got it I'm afraid:rolleyes:

    Zagu,
    Good link,
Ex-trade minister Lord Digby Jones says he was "amazed" to discover how many civil servants "deserved the sack".
He told a committee of MPs he thought the civil service could "frankly... be done with half as many" people.
    I rest my case

I have a vision of him sitting up there, typing angrily and frenetically into his computer (because he seems to have plenty of time to do so!), whilst keeping an eagle eye on his minions slaving away down below him at some terribly important private enterprise, all for the good of the country of course.
    Yeah yeah whatever!;)
Not angry in the slightest;), this thread has put a huge smile on my face:p

I don't specifically on fireworks. Fireworks are actually banned in the Republic of Ireland.
Amusingly, many warehouses would need to be staffed by Chemistry PhDs without some of the other regulations I deal with, unless you wanted a lot of very nasty accidents. What cost would that be to industry?

can't we just put you and all the other public sector workers in the fireworks factory and light the fuse. gets rid of the problem and its solution. two birds with one stone and all that.

Who will attend the fire and tend to the injured? Who will organise the criminal proceedings? Who will grant permission to rebuild the firework factory?

Anarchy is very simple for twelve year olds.

why attend to the fire - the purpose of the fire is to destroy all the fireworks and all of the civil servants.

i suppose if some of the civil servants escape there might be a case of criminal negligence to answer. we can get a CPS lawyer to instruct a criminal barrister whilst the fire is in progress, and then push the lawyer into the flames.

re: rebuilding - see my answer to your first point. further, we can just burn down different factories if we need another fire for this purpose.

    i have all angles covered.

!!!!!!, do I have to write this in crayon? If you do not store dangerous items properly, then they are more likely to cause a big fire and an explosion. If you do store dangerous items properly and there is a fire, there is a smaller fire and no explosion. Therefore, the criminal act would have a less serious consequence. Get it now?

Presumably you think that fighter planes should not have ejector seats, because they get shot down anyway? Good grief, think man!
Thou doth protest too much Sir H.
The post that says if someone wants to torch something.....They will torch it whatever regs are in place....you guys can't possibly legislate and regulate every single facet of human behaviour, no matter how crazy or unbalanced...or could you if were paid an a bit extra salary each year?

    Why are so wired today?

If you want to share...I am wired too.

    I give up.

I like your posts too Sir H...only thing is you ned to post more often...to keep me reading here.

How about a job swap? One with me?

I could try out the making rules and regs and getting paid for it and you could try making things (in UK) and selling them, and trying to catch a bit of salary at the end of the process after all the various cuts to the govt have been taken off. It could be fun ;-)

I'd rather have fireworks banned.:p So it might depend what besides fireworks you work on. :)

...because if you do that then they will only come into the UK illegally through the blackmarket and be sold onto the public via criminalgangs and roguetraders etc. Also because the origin of the illegal blackmarket knock off fireworks would be unknown, the quality/safety/reliability and performance could well be poor and/or potentially dangerous ie flimsy loose rocket sticks/leaky cases/loose fuses/dangerous occurences/flight/movement etc which means they probably won't have been tested to any safety standards/regulations and they could VERY WELL seriously injure or kill the person setting them off and/or using them. Industrial display grade fireworks and pyrotechnics(not intended for use by the general public)caused the tragedy in the Netherlands;domestic BS7114 compliant indoor garden and display fireworks for use by the consumer wouldn't have caused this sort of devastation and damage. Generally as a rule, if you follow the instructions carefully on BS7114 consumer fireworks and adhere to the safety distances etc on the label and heed the warnings on the pack/selection box, then you and your guests generally won't come to any harm at all. Only misuse of a firework causes an injury like not burying them/securing them before you light or blatant abuse of a firework causes injury ie throwing/putting thru letterboxes etc. :D
