So what exactly do you actually do?

If you're job is to prevent a once in a 50 year event such as a fire in a firework factory I'd say yup, you'd be one of the first for the chop.
You might be one of these Health and safety zealots who are taking over our country and leading to massive (and crazy restrictions sometimes) to the way we live our lives, creating more bureaucracy and jobs for the public sector in your wake.

Short of guessing what you do by posting an ancient article from Holland??? about a fireworks factory in holland. I'm stumped as to what function you have in our society.

So as a health and safety bod who's job is to stop fires in Holland whilst being paid by the British taxpayer, I'd say that your jacket would definitely be on a shaky nail if I was in charge;):rotfl::rotfl:

What is this about ? Health & Safety?

I agree the HSE is is a very good thing, but that doesn't mean the organisation of it couldn't do with being streamlined and made more efficient - and even improving results whilst cutting the running costs.

Just being about "Health & Safety" doesn't justify flooding it with money. We want efficiency, results, and good organisation for our money - and not wasted or used inefficiently.

Was watching Jeremy Clarkson in France... (where I once smacked my head as a kid on a street-sign which hung over the payment, at a level which was way too low if you're not paying full attention.)
France has more car accidents than any nation in the civilised world

So why are they all so bonkers?

Well it might have something to do with the fact that in Britain, the Health & Safey Executive got a grant last year from the Government of 180 million pounds.

It has a 9 storey headquarters in the middle of London. It has 40 offices nationwide.

It employs 4000 staff - its huge!

Whereas here in France; there is no Health & Safety Executive.

They don't know what you're talking about.

If you want to take a risk.... well like that really.. that's kind of up to you.

This is what happens when people ignore the regulations that I work on.

What the hell does "regulations that I work on" mean?
    Sounds very civil service.

I am not at work right now, I do not work for the HSE, and I am not being more specific.

So Donald Tramp thinks that preventing fireworks explosions is not a worthy use of his tax money? He is entitled to his opinions. Perhaps it does not occur to him that such explosions are rare BECAUSE we have regulations?

I will take the fact that people would rather attack me personally as a sign that they have otherwise very poor arguments.

BTW, I know for a fact that France has people doing exactly the same work as me.

So why post then ?, how do I know if your job should be cut if I don't know what you do, if it's in the public sector, then I agree it needs slimming down considerably, after all, most of these jobs are no-productive.

Mr Tramp sits in Tramp Towers thinking that no-one working on behalf of their fellow wo/man is worthy of his tax money.

I have a vision of him sitting up there, typing angrily and frenetically into his computer (because he seems to have plenty of time to do so!), whilst keeping an eagle eye on his minions slaving away down below him at some terribly important private enterprise, all for the good of the country of course.

I don't want you job cut Sir H. because I like your ID and your posting style, therefore I have made a contact and do not want to see you personally out of a job. And that is one difference about arguing about statistics rather than real individuals trying to work and support themselves.

The only response that you would be willing to accept is people saying that you do a wonderful job, and we would be in a state of chaos without you, so I fail to see the point in the thread. Personally, I'm with Digby Jones, and, given your general tone and condescending attitude, I'd say that you are in the wrong half.
