Cheap cat litter changed often v crystals

which is not very attractive - you are meant to stir it all around & the smell/moisture is delayed by mixing with the majority white ones! Personally I have chosen to use more natural litters as I imagine something that can process cat wee & solids & still last for a month to be full of chemicals & as cats clean themselves by licking....:eek:

however I do use it if I'm leaving them for say a weekend - as it does mean they can use it many times without the tray being `set' hard like clumping does. My two do not like to use the cystals for the prescribed month tho & after about 2 weeks it's minging so I only use it when I'm away.

I can buy it locally from a large chain, but I understand its can be tricky to source. Its very heavy...I take DH and we buy three bags at a time and it lasts AGES.

We've tried most litters bar the cheaper clay litters, and although the out lay is best I really think for us this works out the cheapest and easiest. The only thing cheaper was buying shavings in big bales (i.e. horse bedding size) and emptying the tray twice daily. This was cheaper but not as small free and worse, much worse, for tracking. It took no longer to do though.

We liked crytal litter very much and were hesitant to try something new having found something that worked so well for us but the Moonlight clumping litter is best.

My girls don't like the wood pellets, they seem to get quite frustrated with it, and we found it expensive, as keeping smell at bay is really important to us, so I was changing the wood pellet daily.

Good luck, maybe worth trying a bag of each suggestion and then settling on what you and the cats like best?

Anyone ever noticed that Morrisons sell their cheap cat litter by weight rather than volume which other supermarkets seem to do? It's sold in 10kg bags and seems to lasts longer than the other supermarket own brands.

I've always used Catsan - just found it worked for us. I tried that pink cat litter at one point but found it dyed furball's paws pink (and I've now got cream carpets so not risking that one again). She liked the pink but I can't quite deal with a black and white tripod with bright pink feet!

At the minute she has City Cat from sainsbury's. M little kitty only needs one bag a month and it costs about £3.80.

Any hints on which cat lit tracks the least, Mine are currently on Catsan and it tracks everywhere.
