    Afternoon all!

Well hubby went to Mr T's last night for some chicken for tea (apparently I didn't buy enough lol). He's an ex-chef so likes to try and wow us hahaha. Anyway he asked me did I want anything, so I said surprise me.

    And did he ever!

Came home with a little basket with some summer flowers in it, and a strawberry plant!!! I've been banging on about growing strawberries for months now and he's been saying no no no, but relented and surprised me last night!!

Needless to say I was very happy! So my little plant will be getting sorted this weekend! I'm going to town tomorrow and to poundland as they had some for £1 each so want to get a couple more just to be on the safe side and hopefully get loads of strawberries this year!

My bokashi has only been going a week and is almost full! Hopefully it will work!! The compost dalek is eating very well and is almost 1/3 full already! going to get some moisture into it over the weekend and get OH to give it a poke with the fork as I'm not allowed to do stuff like that so I will content myself with planting in little pots. I've saved a couple of plastic trays for veg and a paper one that cherry toms came in so will be very busy on sunday!

    Hope you are all well

And thanks for the info on cloches, will make some to protect my little plants!!! Was also thinking of using some half bottles as planters to start some seedlings off!

Am definitely on a recycling kick! Off to check freecycle now!

    Hi all:D

Well, productive afternoons digging over the rest of bed 1.

    Slightly fed up as:
    a) Spuds been in 2 weeks and nothing showing.
    b) Seeds sown week and half ago and nothing showing? I have used the home made clotches (surprising how many I collected in a short space of time.)
    c) Getting fed up waiting for my chickens, 2 weeks to go!

Anyway, going to try and put the trays on my heated bathroom floor at night to see if that makes a difference, hubby says no, but i'm going to anyway:p

Hmm, does anyone know where I can get cheap plug veg plants from?

You could also try googling for Rocket Gardens (which are specifically organic ones).

    Hello Everyone,

If you have a Wilkinsons where you are Moozle, I have found they seem to be cheapest for plugs, but you have to get them when they are first in, not when they've been on the shelves a fortnight without water! However, nothing beats seeds for price value. Being new to home growing I bought a gardening magazine to find out what to do and got some free Brussel Sprout seeds. I have planted some up and they are coming up a treat - but there were 300 seeds in the packet! I won't need to buy any more Brussel seeds for years! I also got onion sets, potatoes already starting to chit and strawberry plants from a pound shop and they all seem to be coming on okay too. In fact, my main outlay seems to of been the magazines!

    Hello the bees,
I'm in Radipole (nr Weymouth) - not so close as Lyme - what a lovely place!

Bit of a disaster this evening!

Our dear cat George decided while we were out that he would catch a little blackbird and bring it in throught the catflap. Then when he was bored of it he let it go in the lounge and the poor thing sat itself on the windowsill and ate its way through 5 or 6 of my tomato seedlings!! Luckily I have some more upstairs! Little blackbird has been rescued and let outside but not sure if he'll survive or not.

RowSew - Weymouth is nice too. Despite living near Lyme we rarely go there!:rotfl:

For anyone with a Poundland near them there are some good gardening products at the moment. Those pop up bins are only £1 and would be good for potatoes I thought.

  • Hi everyone, well i've dug over my new piece of ground for the raised bed i intended to have and found loads of buried glass...a big bucket load. who on earth would want to bury glass in a garden? it was about a foot down so don't think it just got buried by itself. Mind you when we first moved here we couldn't even get in the back gate it was so overgrown. we found a shed half way up the garden we didn't know was there. You lot seem so more advanced than little old me. But I am getting there and am pleased with the results of all the hard work. I wish I lived a bit nearer to some decent shops but though i'm in essex i live about 20 mns from nearest reasonable size town. Anyway as always good luck to you all. This site is so addictive.

Hello all! just thought I'd come along and join the party.

We've had 2 allotments for several years, but have just given 1 up as we couldn't crop both successfully. We've kept the one with the polytunnel, greenhouse and shed on it! (yes, I DO know how lucky I am!)

We had a bad year last year with veg growing as we had our house renovated and I've got a tendon problem in both arms and my o/h has RSI in both wrists. Really falling apart, both of us!

We had a warning-your-plot-is-a-mess-do-something-about-it-threat-threat-threat letter from the council in January giving us a month to sort it. We did what we could, but Feb was a crap gardening month! Then we had a notice to quit served! So I rang the man in the office and it was duly rescinded. It did give us a kick up the backside to get things going, and by George, they're going now! We've got loads planted and hoping for early spuds next month and salads quite soon. Details at my blog on blogspot, just look up bonkersblonde.

Good luck to all, hope we can all say up yours to the supermarkets this year!
