Dunno where youve been looking, you can get a Panny 32" for less than £400!If you're looking to spend less than £400, then you're looking for a terrible 26" set, really and in anything under 32 you can't really get a 1080 set.
If you're looking to spend more, then a 32 inch panasonic set, sony or samsung will see you fine.
A panasonic 32lxd85 is brilliant and 720 resolution, but has a 100hz refresh rate which makes movement noticably smoother. It's a discontinued model, though.
If you're looking at a 37+ sized set, go to a shop, look at the HD ready vs 1080 sets and notice that the lower res sets can have jagged edges, even on HD broadcasts, whereas full HD are much smoother.0

And you can get a 32" 1080p TV for under 400 notes too though as people said you wont really notice the benefit at 32"0

This seemed to get lost in the bickering and in my (not a TV geek head) is quite an important point as its thrown about by almost everyone..I would dispute that. You can see the difference on a small screen, it just depends on how far away you are when you are viewing it. As a rule is thumb, if you are within 2 1/2 screen widths from the screen you should be able to see the difference.
Put your hand up if you actually sit this close to you TV?? Picturing ALL my friends and families houses, even those with big living rooms where a 42inch TV doesnt look just plain stupid and oversized jammed into a corner, I dont think anyone sits this closer for "normal" viewing.
As i type this i'm glancing over at my 19inch HD ready TV in the bedroom... I certainly wouldnt want it any bigger for aesthetics(sp?), nor viewing but to get to 2 - 2.5 times viewing distance I would have to be sat on the floor / edge of the bed..
just my opinion of course, i'm not "into" my TVs / gaming.0
