Two things to say:
First it's disappointing and even sickening that there's always someone looking to stick in and twist the knife. For one this is about money saving; for another you don't know the full situation. My last direct debit was only missed because of money not getting into the account on time (by one day!), which was out of my control.
Second I forgot that I still have my old NatWaste account complete with a Maestro card, so if applying to Barclays doesn't work then I have that to fall back on. I've applied for a basic current account but will be applying for a basic cash one also.0 -
In your position, I would have been better behaved. Worth bearing in mind if any other bank will take you on.
Very helpful
Im sure the same could be said by the thousands who want to claim back the bank charges , im also sure you want mind paying £35 incase you ever went overdrawn either or they closed your account for some poor excuse , seeing as you are such a great customer.
3 missed direct debits is not criminal , its not a massive put out for the banks either ......probably just an excuse because he was not profitable to the bank in question, for one im sick off banks greed.....do hope you find another bank who treats you better0 -

Well said, there are way too many ars's on here best advice is to ignore em and eventually they do go away... Missing the odd DD is a good thing, the bank charge you for crying-out-loud!!Second I forgot that I still have my old NatWaste account complete with a Maestro card, so if applying to Barclays doesn't work then I have that to fall back on. Mate, why don't you start using the full account and get out of using basic ones? The full account will be cheaper to run, if for example you miss any future payments etc...?
Best of luck - let us know how your bank search goes...2010 - year of the troll

Yea but who, exactly, are you to tell him what to do? Banks DO make money on missed payments so why is it a bad thing? The OP was spot on with his opening question.... he didn't ask to be judged, he simply asked for advice - not criticism.
I forgot though, you preachers are perfect and never miss payments right?
Maybe one day you'll answer the question in hand or not post! simple really mate.2010 - year of the troll

It's a bad thing because it might affect your credit rating.0 -

That's not the point. If you can't run your finances properly, a bank is quite entitled to tell you where to go, and they're under no obligations to accept it.0 -

So far...
I was unable to even get the most basic of bank accounts at Barclays for whatever reason, which their staff member seemed disturbingly smug about. While I'm not happy about either of those, it has prompted me to investigate and correct my credit report.
There was an old NatWaste credit card on file that was supposed to have been cancelled a while ago (I called them up to cancel it), but shows a very small outstanding balance. I'd spent a good two hours yesterday trying to find out how to correct the problem, during which they acted as if I was avoiding paying the balance.
And of course, they couldn't end the problem without trying to sell their Advantage Gold product.
While I could use my existing NatWaste account and make life simpler, I was reminded of why I call them NatWaste.
PS: I asked for places to open another account, not holier-than-thou statements.0 -

Any number of missed DD's is not criminal, however the OP had the account with Co-op because of a poor credit history which means he/she has had possible problems in the past with another bank/card company.
The Co-op will have been aware of problems previously (maybe not the specifics), but still offered to give the OP a basic account. In return the OP has now run into problems again. I'm seeing a pattern here and so are the Co-op, hence the action imposed. It's not a case of simply missing a DD, it suggests a lot more.
The OP has to run an account according to the terms and look closely at their financial management and clear their past c/card history otherwise this will be a continuing theme until such time that nobody will issue a new account.0
