Kicked Out by Cooperative

Just got a letter from the Cooperative Bank today, saying they're closing my Cashminder account due to "being used in an unsatisfactory manner" (I'd missed three Direct Debit payments in three months). They've caused me a few inconveniences themselves, but apparently I'm the unreasonable one.

I'm dying to say a few colourful words about them, but I will keep my head.

The only reason I went with them was because of my credit rating, so I couldn't have a regular current account. So now I'm looking for another bank to do business with, preferably one that treats its customers with some respect.

Any suggestions?

Have you tried telephoning them, they may give you one last chance.

Unfortunately the Co-Operative bank operates a 3 strikes and out policy like HSBC do on the basic account.

If you want another basic account because of your credit rating have a look here.

Call me naive, but I had no idea they'd be so anal with their customers. This comes from a bank that blocked my card on Good Friday last year, before they called me about suspected fraud.

I've applied to Barclays, having spoken to a nice representative online. Lets see what happens.

Standard practice - Lloyds did it with me last week and I am glad they did. I would rather have to spend 10 mins on the phone to them verifying my details and transactions than lose money and have to spend weeks getting it back.

In your position, I would have been better behaved. Worth bearing in mind if any other bank will take you on.
