It might be down to a delivery driver who didn't take enough care with ensuring he/she had the correct address.

A few years ago I was fed up with Royal mail delivering letters and leaving parcels in my porch that were not for me, did not have my name on and had a different address i.e. we were no. 11 and we had stuff for no. 1, 10, 17, 100, 101, 111 basically any number that had a 1 or 7 in it. We have a big no. 11 outside our porch and a notice requesting that no parcels were left but all ignored. I was fed up of being expected to travel miles to return to the sorting office so I refused last time.

I was actually at home when parcel was left but wasn't quick enough catching posty so rang RM and told them it wasn't mine and could someone collect but they refused as they were satisfied it was delivered. A couple of weeks later I had a very flustered RM person and an angry intended recipient of the parcel on my door step at 8am demanding I return it. I told them in no uncertain terms I had requested 3 times they collect it, once in writing and RM had refused. I also informed them that future parcels misdelivered would be disposed of and I would not inform RM of their error.

Strangely no more rogue parcels.:T :T

I would have kept their letter for a while, but I think you are safe enough.

I had a similar deal with Parcelnet / Debenhams. I had an item not delivered complained to Debenhams and got my money back. Then I got a letter from Parcelnet claiming they left the parcel outside the front door. I live in a flat and as there was no one threre to take receipt, it was my fault! it got lost  They asked me to uathorise an alternate "safe location" where they could leave parcels when I was not at home ........ if it had advised me when parcel was to be delivered or it was April 01st I might have understood :rotfl:

I think your suggestion is a good one, I should have kept the letter for a while as despite being told they were refunding me they actually never did this - and now several months later I had to escalate to get my money back.

Also since then I ordered an item which was different from their website picture and I arranged collection, courier company picked it up in April and gave me a returns number and I never got a refund. Chasing this was a nightmare - couldn't get any sense from them, the alleged I was dealing with Parcelnet (not the case )

Had to escalate before anything was done and I got my money back.

Since then ordered two items over the phone as were unavailable online or instore. Got sent something completely different! The dispatch note states the items I actually wanted even though that's not what I have at home..
