Debenhams just phoned me - apparently they say it's normal process that the courier company contacts you if your parcel goes missing.

If you're not home Parcelnet are supposed to leave you a note and take item back to depot. They didn't do this, they didn't leave it with a neighbour either.

Debenhams couldn't have cared less that my signature was forged - said it wasn't anything to do with them. Suggested I deal with the courier directly as they are not in this loop and have no control.

I asked if they were not interested that someone had forged my signature? They didn't have alot to say to this..

Anyway have Debenhams Head office email and will maybe write to them but not sure if it's worth the hassle..

I don't think you have any contract with the parcel company as they were employed by Debenhams.

I have trouble with parcels just being left in my porch which is unlocked. I do notify the company if high value goods have been left and I haven't signed for them. i.e. bought a laptop from Bennetts online and came home from work to find it in my porch. Emailed Bennetts who were not happy as they specify that goods must be signed for!

You had NO contract with Parcelnet, I would ignore them.
  • I ordered stuff from JD Williams but sent it back with parcel net a week or so later, I got a letter with the amount I owed, not taking the stuff off that I returned. So I got in contact with JD Williams and it took 2 months to get it taken off the bill, it was obvious that the parcelnet woman who collects and delivers stole it. But parcelnet never contacted me.

I hope you get it sorted soon

    > Called Debenhams back, they refunded my money as item now no longer in stock!!
    >Now about a month later I get a letter from Parcelnet which attaches a copy of the "signature" against my name but it's not even a signature, just a line on a page!!! They say as they have proof of signed delivery they/Debenhams will be reclaiming the money from me and the claim for undelivered goods is rejected.

Can't see how they can BOTH be chasing you for money. You paid Debenhams. Debenhams repaid you. So: well done, Debenhams.

If Debehams has collected on its carrier insurance -- i.e., has hit ParcelNet with the bill for refund costs -- then that's between Debenhams and ParcelNet.

If ParcelNet wish to sue you for the money, then let 'em prove they delivered the item, you took possession of the item, and that you signed for it.

I don't see any point in continuing to blame Debenhams for, well, anything.

I also don't see any point in refusing to even drop a quick line, by snail mail and 2nd Class stamp, to ParcelNet, seeing as how it's them -- not Debenhams -- who've been in touch with you.

Your letter to ParcelNet could be briefer than any post here and save you having to worry unnecessarily.

As a side note, it's about time all these delivery companies awoke to the fact that PDA sigs are worthless: I've never yet been able to pen a signature that remotely looks like mine.

I've disposed of the parcelnet letter - as far as I'm concerned I've told Debenhams I didn't get my item so they can sort it out between themselves.. Thanks for all you comments.. really appreciated...

How did you know that? Have you seen the person wearing the items or are you actually just presuming?

Making wild allegations like that can be dangerous for all parties involved.

I was going to say the same as OlliesDad .... how did you know that it was the courier who stole the item? What prove do you have?

From pick up to delivery there are lots of points where an item could be stolen. When the courier picked up the item, did you sign a sheet - this will have had to be passed back to the service centre, who then take the item.

Most couriers that I have worked with are very honest, you do get a few rogue ones, but they are spotted pretty quick.

It might not be even stolen - it just got lost in the system - maybe the label came off, or item got damaged in transit ... lots of reasons.

I assume you had a reciept for the return - which would have proved that you had returned it.

I would have kept their letter for a while, but I think you are safe enough.

I had a similar deal with Parcelnet / Debenhams. I had an item not delivered complained to Debenhams and got my money back. Then I got a letter from Parcelnet claiming they left the parcel outside the front door. I live in a flat and as there was no one threre to take receipt, it was my fault! it got lost  They asked me to uathorise an alternate "safe location" where they could leave parcels when I was not at home ........ if it had advised me when parcel was to be delivered or it was April 01st I might have understood :rotfl:
