Debenhams - is this kinda fraud?

Ordered a gift from Debenhams online, didn't turn up. Chased it a week or so later, then again a week after that. They told me that the item had been delivered and a signature obtained. They couldn't provide details of signature. Asked me to check with neighbours, which I did and they had not signed anything for me. Called Debenhams back, they refunded my money as item now no longer in stock!! And still unable to provide a signature for me..
Now about a month later I get a letter from Parcelnet which attaches a copy of the "signature" against my name but it's not even a signature, just a line on a page!!! They say as they have proof of signed delivery they/Debenhams will be reclaiming the money from me and the claim for undelivered goods is rejected.
I was absolutely fuming, called Debenhams and as it was the evening they promised a high level complaints team or similar would phone me yesterday - no call..
Parcelnet have requested if I dispute the letter to write back to them, they do not include a stamped envelope and I don't want to waste my time or money in a dispute with them.. I would rather deal with Debenhams.
Apparently Parcelnet should have left a note through the letterbox if I wasn't in but didn't and I hate to say it but I feel as if someone has forged my signature which I am very annoyed about..
Has anyone else suffered this from Debenhams?

email parcel net? I think they just want some respose from you re whether its your sig or not.0

They don't provide email, want me to post a response to them.. If anyone has an email address for them i'd appreciate it but I'm not wasting me time writing a letter and paying for postage...
Also they're not asking if I've signed for it, they are saying that I have....This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
Your contract was with Debenhams - not Parcelnet. You do not have to deal with Parcelnet; in fact it is better if you don't.
Write to Debenhams and complain about their courier and tell them to sort it out.0 -
I'd ignore them. You've got your money back, if Debenhams/parcelnet want to chase you for a refund of the money then let them - they'll have to take it to court.0

Thank you, that's what I think aswell. I don't want to get into anything with the courier company...This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
But why would you want to complain to Debenhams? They've given you your money back and they aren't the ones who are saying that they'll come after you for any money?? just ignore them0

Clearly Parcelnet are numpties.I would ignore them if it was me-and ask debs why they are allowing them to hassle you.0

Have you asked Parcelnet why they are pursuing you when the signature they have is clearly a forgery? Ask them if they have interviewed the driver in question and whether he can give an accurate description of the person who provided the signature. You should request that they take it up with the police. I bet they just give up when they realise its probably just their own driver who signed for it and stole it!0

I think Parcelnet accept signatures on an electronic PDA.As for the drivers memory about description, some of them do 100 drops a day so i doubt he will remember.0

I think my main worry was that I didn't want them to just take out the money back from my account at some point if I don't respond...
I've told Debenhams I didn't get the package, therefore I didn't sign for it. This is why I am annoyed the courier company are hassling me directly. They know this information already as I provided it to Debenhams..
They are refunding me at the moment, but will they have to take it to court in order to take it back from me again? In which case I'll let them and then someone forging my signature will come to light I guess...This is a system account and does not represent a real person.
