Erm. I think you may find that the Tories under their beloved Margaret started the "light touch" by blatant deregulation. Remember the Big Bang? And I don't remember a concerted Tory campaign to re-emasculate the BofE until late 2007. Stable door and all that.0

We've never had a banking crisis of this magnitude nor the country on the brink of bankruptcy in peactime under the Conservatives. But Labour governments always end up with the economy in tatters. Some people might vote Labour because it fits with their ethos or their perceived class loyalty, or because they have a vested interest. But anyone doing so for reasons of national economic benefit must be in denial.No-one would remember the Good Samaritan if he'd only had good intentions. He had money as well.
The problem with socialism is that eventually you run out of other people's money.

People who ignore the seeds of any destruction and concentrate only on what happened today may also be in denial. Without understanding we cannot put right, that which needs to be put right. You sound a bit like the man who abolished boom and bust and you are both in denial. You also forget, or are too young to remember that nice Mr Heath and the three day week.
Mind you, it is pretty insightful of you to point out that "some people might vote Labour because it fits with their ethos or their perceived class loyalty, or because they have a vested interest". Isn't that why everyone votes, regardless of how they vote?
Oh, and by the way, you don't seem to have answered either of my points. Never mind, fantasy land is always a more comfortable place to live in than the real world.0 -

so I take it labour are therefore responsible for the financial meltdown in every other developed nation? But Labour governments always end up with the economy in tatters. isnt that why everyone votes?
Maggie Thatcher is the person that decided the UK was a service economy and sold off the family silver so we have nothing left now.
Why anyone thinks the current incumbents of the tory party could have done anything better when they couldnt even organise a decent campaign before the last election and are led by spiv who has never done a days work in his life is beyond me.0 -

who says it's peacetime? we're fighting war in iraq and afghanistan. plus the "war on terror".Those who will not reason, are bigots, those who cannot, are fools, and those who dare not, are slaves. - Lord Byron0 -
I only routinely answer posts which are bona fide (ie not rhetorical or loaded) questions, rather than statements or opinions.
There is no such thing as a war on terror. Afghanistan represents hostilities, not a declared war. Iraq is now a matter of helping to deal with insurgents.
I don't know why people vote the way they do. The reasons are no doubt numerous and varied. The fact that Blair got in three times suggests that they are in many cases not rational.No-one would remember the Good Samaritan if he'd only had good intentions. He had money as well.

Perhaps that there was no viable alternative.
Its an interesting concept that people that dont agree with you must be irrational. Not everyone reads the Telegraph and therefore may be able to form alternative opinions.0 -

I think you will find that Gordon Brown is responsible for selling off a vast amount of our Gold reserves.Stopped smoking 27/12/2007, but could start again at any time :eek:0 -
Disgusting. Shame on you Fred.0
