That could be quite useful for a thief!

    Why?
Anyone can walk up to my house any time of day or night.
Why does having a piece of paper help them?

There is a balance to be stuck between what we carry and security which we all make everyday if we have a purse/wallet/handbag.

I leave most of my debit/credit cards and driving licence at home in a hidden safe, so I can assure you that I have thought it through.

You might not agree with my individual decisions but I can assure that they are carefully considered and not ignorant.

If you have no worries then fine.

But it was you who posted the question:

Is it not sensible to have the insurance details in your car?

Why ask for advice then just argue when you are given some?

Quite simply, because I didn't understand the answer.

Anyone can go onto the internet and find my street name or just walk up it or drive up it anytime they want. I didn't understand why seeing it in print makes then more likely to try burglary when it's so easy to find a street anyway.
In fact if they nicked my 20 year old rust bucket I happen to think they'd be less likely to think I had anything of value.

If I was a thief I'd look for my target properties on the internet (perhaps estate agents site would identify my target area). I wouldn't look at pieces of paper that tell me nothing about the viability of the property.
But perhaps you know thiefs better than me??

The "thief" I referred to was the car thief who would have both your car and documents giving the correct id of the owner.

You have changed "thief" to "house burglar" and gone off at a tangent!

Back to original post, Swinton are brokers, its the insurance company that logs the information to the MID which can take up to 5 weeks to load.
  • I've been stopped before by one of the cars reading reg numbers even although I was insured.

Thats life. As has been said, if they catch one uninsured driver, it's worth it.
