How long do boiled eggs last?

I made too many yesterday and don't really feel like having them today. Will they last another day?
Don't want to throw them away, had been doing so well not throwing any food away.
TIA for any replies.

  • While we're on the subject of boiled eggs can someone please tell me how to make a really good dippy egg? I often really fancy dippy egg and soldiers, but have no idea how to go about cooking one. Ie, hot or cold water? How long for soft boiled, and how long for hardboiled?
    Thank you

For soft boiled, I put eggs (room temperature) into a pan of cold water and bring to boiling point, I time 4 minutes exactly from the moment the water starts to boil. For hard boiled, I cook for 8 minutes and plunge the eggs straight into cold water after cooking as this stops a black ring developing around the yolk.

I put them in cold water as well but i find 2.5 minutes is just right. I always time from when the water is properly boiling not just seething and the pan I use is quite solid so probably absorbs more heat before it comes to the boil. Which suggests you need to experiment.

lakeland do a gadget you can put in the water which changes colour when the eggs should be done
It doesn't matter if you are a glass half full or half empty sort of person. Keep it topped up! Cheers!
  • Nah, .... put into boiling water for 5 minutes 10 seconds - and a large egg will have a hard white and a soft runny yolk

I asked this on another forum and was told that like pretty much any cooked food, boiled eggs are safe for up to three days in the fridge. Apparently you can freeze them too although they tend to shed water and become rubbery.

I just heard on the radio this morning something about government advice not to eat uncooked eggs at the moment, even though bird flu isn't here yet.
I would be particularly careful about soft boiled eggs if the eggs start to sneeze or complain of a sore throat before you boil them............
(of course, they may just be bluffing..)
