  • Ive never been to Netto or Lidl but Im an Aldi fan.
The staff in my Aldi are really nice and I never have to queue up as they open a new till if there is only a couple of people waiting. Also have seen customers letting people in who only have one or two items.
I've got used to the way they chuck it at you, I put all the heavy items on first, like cartons and bottles and tins, when you are filling your trolley on the way round the store, put the heavy things at the front and the squashable things at the back of the trolley, so its easy to unload it on order onto the belt. Then your heavy items come through the till first and you can put them at the bottom of the trolley and chuck your lettuces and tomatoes on top. What I do if they are going a bit fast is to go really slow and then they will have to slow down so you can catch up. Or, when they tell you how much it has come to, dont give 'em the money until you've finished loading your trolley! ;)
I do like being able to repack it though as Im no good in Sainsburys, I get all flustered when Im trying to pack my bags, then I forget where I put my purse. :D
I suppose you just get used to it, and Im prepared to put up with these inconveniences as I like (most) of their stuff and I like the price even better.

I do the same as Sweet Pea, in loading up the heavy stuff on the belt first and then they go into the trolley first afterwards.

I also take 3 large jute bags with me (£1 each in Sainsbury or Tesco), and line the trolley with them, so the bags are packed starightaway as the goods are thrown at me.

The staff at our local Lidl's are friendly. I usually go at quieter times so i've never had a problem with other customers either. Quite a few times when i've been in, there have been so many foreigners in, talking to each other (they shop in groups!) in the aisles, i've felt as though I was in Russia. :D

i find they do rush you in lidl - i love the 39p curry noodle things they do as they are handy for work

i prefer home bargains but there are only a few things in there for food and no freezer or fridge stuff

    :)

I find they throw stuff at me in Lidl's and are quite rude too - I get tutted at if I'm not quic enough turning the trolley round at the end of the checkout!!
The other people are mixed - sometimes it really depresses me, but as I'm often the only one with children and there are sometimes lots of older people, we get showered with attention :)
Strange thread to have on here! :) And how did you find it again annie-c?? It's so old :)

I find Lidl staff to be zombies, whereas Aldi staff go out of their way to be polite and helpful.

lidl's is one of the worst places to shop and work trust me i worked there for a while i thought ooh pay is good etc but the work load is amazing and the staff turn over is crazy in fact staff turn over was so fast i was managing the store within a short while of starting, staff moral is low and the staff i worked with felt like they had no reason to work so hard for little in return the hours overtime i worked without pay is crazy and the i recall times going in to open up on my day off at 6am to return late evening to have to cash up and lock up and thats on my day off! once i started at 6am and got out at gone 11pm (stock take but the area managers thought it was more of a party chatting etc!) i just wanted to get home had to be back at 6am to open up its awful! so anyway it came to ahead when i hurt my back lifting heavy stuff stacked up far too high (normal!) on a stupid pallet where some nutter thought he would put heavy stuff on light stuff and then some more light stuff ontop im 5ft2" the pallet was higher the me about 6ft had to strecth high to get heavy stuff off and numerous times the delivery man would bring them off the lorry and the pallets toppled over and stock smashed everywhere because of some nutters stacking arghhhh i could go on but i gotta stop could be here all day!!

p.s i advise all shopping in lidl to check the dates on the tins, my lot where i worked could never be bothered to rotate them!(more work for me!) and the fruit and veg i would even go there if they dont rotate the tins are they gonna be bothered to rotate fruit n veg? your right nope they can tbe bothered i always thought i was just the area the store was located as it was lets say ummm not the most pleasant areas but i have heard all stores are pretty much the same they take advantage of the hard workers and eventually the hard working ones get cheesed off and leave hence the high turn over of staff.

There are 2 near me and I use them a lot since LBM. The staff are always pleasant and polite, and I can see that they have to work a lot harder than the staff in my local Tesco. The Lidl staff have to turn their hand to everything, checkouts, unloading stock, stacking shelves and cleaning. That's why it's cheap for goodness sake. :T
People go to Lidl expecting to behave as they do in other supermarkets, without realising their system is different. You are supposed to put your stuff back into the trolley and take it over to the packing bench, where you can take as long as you like over packing your bags or boxes.
The only rudeness I've ever encountered has been from customers and usually directed at the long suffering staff, who obviously don't have right of reply but do have my sympathy.

I don't shop at lidl as it's too far out of our way... then again the last I heard it was sinking into the ground along with the local bowling alley next door!
