Are people nice to you in your Lidl store?

I was in mine today and it seems that people are not polite or nice to each other in Lidl....I'm trying to figure out if this is a generalisation or just in my town.
For example, I was in a queue with one jar of coffee and a couple ahead of me wiith a whole weeks shopping. They looked directly at me and went on ahead...now if I had been in my local Sainsbury's I would have been let to go first.
This has happened to me many times in Lidl...is it just here? Do people think that just because the stuff is cheaper and there are no fast lanes that they don't have to be nice? I always make a point of letting people through with small amounts to try and break the trend!! :rotfl:

Dont know about Lidl but in Aldi people always let you go in front if you only have a couple of items.
Maybe you just had an off day?0 -
Hi it's not the customers that i find rude it's the staff especially the checkout where they basically chuck the stuff at you!! it put's me off shopping in there especially if i have a big shop, they only ever have one till open!!!gingerfurball wrote:I was in mine today and it seems that people are not polite or nice to each other in Lidl....I'm trying to figure out if this is a generalisation or just in my town.

I agree, I can't take my kids with me as I get really stressed at the checkout at Lidl when they chuck the stuff at me. The staff even expect you to just dump it in your trolley and then pack your bags afterwards! It's certainly not a pleasant customer experience so I kind of see having to shop there as my penance for being in debt!0 -
Hi Gingerfurball
I find the exact same thing happens to me in Netto. Also, I find the people down right cheeky too. Take this for an example, it wouldn't happen at Sainsbury's, Asda, etc I don't think.
I was in the queue the other day and I had three bottles of Paul Mason wine in my trolley, which were £2.99 each - bargain! A woman who was stood behind me said, "So you're the reason that I can't get a drink 'round 'ere. You've nicked all the bl**dy wine off the shelves!!" I looked around and saw that she had a basket with a bottle of gin, vodka, whisky and one bottle of the Paul Mason wine in it. I looked up at her face, thinking that she might be joking, and she was livid. "Pardon?", I said. She replied, "It's people like you who bulk buy that don't leave enough for the rest of us!!" I was gobsmacked. I then pointed out a pallet load of the wine that was in the middle of the floor being unpacked by a harrassed Netto worker.
Can you believe it, any one else got stories about these places?Debt Free Wannabe :rolleyes:0 -
I find the aldi staff a lot nicer than lidl staff. They always say hello etc and give you time to pack your stuff, whereas lidl staff chuck it all in your trolley and dont seem as friendly

Thats one of the reasons why I dont shop at Lidl's. They seem like they are rushing you all the time and hurrying you to pack your shopping up. I think they get bonusses for how many people they get going through the till or something. I also nearly always forget to take my own carrier bag and end up buying some. I also dont think they are much cheaper than any other supermarket as they dont have any BOGOF's or reduced items.2008 Comping ChallengeWon so far - £3010 Needed - £230Debt free since Oct 20040

My sister used to work in Aldi's. Crap wages apparently and they were always understaffed, so she was regularly very harried. Its no excuse to be rude, but you can pardon them a bit if you realise how rubbish it is to actually work there.
My sister was always nice though!"I've fallen down a hole" - said in best Monty Python voice-over.0 -
I only go to lidl and Aldi when it is quieter.
But think the quality of some of there goods are almost as good as the best/branded ranges with prices at value or just above ranges.
I never buy much only a few bits and pieces so have never had the joy of a full shop in either. Not that I could do a full shop in there anyway but that is another story.
The staff are well paid up to £7.50 an hour I believe. But you are forgetting the reason why they are cheap. They employ 5 staff to do the work of 10 and then only ever seem to have one till open at a time.
I have found in Aldi that the staff seem ok. And as I buy so little when I go in there I always remove a cardboard tray from the shelves to put my own stuff in. No bags and easy to carry and load when at the other end of the till.
