If you didn't tell them of your move then the sending of a notification to your last known address would be quite sufficient to satisfy a court that they had done everything they could reasonably do.
Wanting to challenge them gives me the impression that you think they are in some way responsible for this? Don't take this the wrong way, but whilst pointing the finger you should make a note of where your other three fingers are pointing.0 -
No no, I have edited my previous post and fully accept blame and realise how stupid I have been, I am just wondering if I can ever get a mortgage until then?0
-
Because mortgages are secured on a property, the 'rules' for mortgages are somewhat different from those of unsecured credit... so a mortage company is often more concerned about how much your deposit is and how much your salary is.... you may well end up paying a higher interest rate for a couple of years ...
Having said that its impossible to guess where the mortgage market will be in a couple of years time.
However, nothing on this thread suggests you have messed up your life.. just a little temporary difficulty.0 -
So if I had a salary of say 30,000 and a deposit of 40-50,000 would I still be ok?0

Do you think writing an email to the national debtline would be worthwhile, would they be able to give me some help?0

Normally utility bills don't show on credit files (unless in default) so do nothing to help your creditworthliness.
NTL certainly used to report customer accounts to the CRA's. They were anything but 'normal' though so I still agree with you :rotfl:. The only services they offered were landline telephones, tv and broadband. Since they became Virgin Media, I'm not sure if they still report - I'll check later.0 -
Virign media, doesn't show up on my credit rating at all, so I guess not, I am just wondering if I will ever be able to get a mortgage until after the 6 year period when the default has gone from my records?0

If its the only item wrong and you can at least get it noted as satisfied on your credit report then you may be okay.
No-one can give a definate answer in this curent climate unfortunately. Even those with perfect credit ratings are being turned down for things sometimes.0 -
You had a credit card. You changed your address. You did not notify the credit card company of your new address. You ceased making payments. A year passed by. You could not be trusted with a loan of a relatively small sum of money. Now you want to be trusted with a large sum of money. Good luck................................I have put my clock back....... What does it actually say on your credit file?
If there are charges you should claim these back and if the default amount is higher or equal to what you claim back then you have a case for having the default removed. In any event if you are claiming back charges that are included in the default amount you should have the default amount reduced to reflect the actual debt.Mama read so much about the dangers of drinking alcohol and eating chocolate that she immediately gave up reading.0
