I agree with above posts that hospital arrangements will vary from area to area.
In the hospital I work in there are 2 maternity wards, each has 2 single rooms and 1 2-bedder,
they are there for women who have C-sections, twins, etc and staff must have a hard time deciding who takes priority if there are more deserving cases than there are available rooms.
When I had first I was given a side room because one was available and I worked in Hosp. but was told that if anyone came in who needed it I would be moved out,

I think if you talk this over with Hosp then it can be noted and as long as there is a room free you could take it,
it might be as well to add that if you are given a side room that you will be happy to move out if someone needs it more,
pre-booking and paying for rooms is something that will vary from LA to LA,

At my local hospital - you aren't guaranteed a side room even if you pay. I was in a side room after an emergency section but on night 4 was asked if I would move to a ward so someone else who had just had a section could have it - i was happy to. My friend paid for her side room but was told before hand that it couldn't be guaranteed - she would have to move if an emergency came in. Her husband works at the hospital and they do try to after their own but not at the expense of someone who needs it more.

I don't think it is right to lie to get the room of your choice - you would be depriving someone whos need is greater than yours.

I do hope that you get this sorted and that your hospital does the right thing and gives you the side room, Having a baby is stressful enough with out this added problem . Let us all know how you get on, and heres wishing you a happy healthy new baby, x
