Just found by searching the settings on my i3 that I actually have V7 software, not the V8 as stated on the box  not happy. Did anyone have success sending these off for the upgrade? can you tell me how long it takes?
Thanks.0 -
I got my card in 9 days and all is well.
I seen multiple reports of people getting the upgrade, especially on the pocketgps website.

Thanks for this Greyster. I sent mine off on Tuesday and it was back today. I sent it Special Delivery but it came back in a flimsy DL envelope normal post. Glad it made it!This signature is not mine!0

Whilst everyone on here is talking about a v7 or v8, I've just purchased a Garmin I3 from my local Halfords and it looks as though I've got a v2.6.
The box reads "...pre-programmed with City Navigator Europe NT...." and when I look at the Settings>About on the unit, it reads "Software Version 2.60". Unfortunately, the staff didn't seem to know what I was talking about when I asked the question about the version of maps on the unit.
Is this really old stock or am I missing something here?
Presumeably Garmin won't upgrade v6 to v8 like they will for v7?
It looks as though I will be going back to Halfords for an exchange.0 -
The SOFTWARE is version 2.6, easily upgraded via download from Garmin. To check the MAP that you have, go to 'settings' then 'map' then 'mapsource' - this will tell you if you have v7 or v8 maps.0

Hi MerryMiller No need to take it back to Halfords the version you are refering to (v2.6) is the firmware version of the Garmin not the Maps.to see what version your map is go to SETTINGS then MAP then MAPSOURCE if you have v8 maps it will tell you here (CITY NAVIGATOR,EUROPE NT+v8).
Or just look on the box it came in where the barcode is and in small letters it will have v7 or v8.

Firmware can be updated for free using your own PC in a matter of seconds. This is why there is not much chat on the subject. The latest version is 2.82. Download the web updater off the garmin site, plug your I3 into your PC with the cable supplied and away you go.
The map data referred to as v7 and v8 on the other hand requires postage if you're seeking the upgrade.0 -
I took mine back to Staples for a refund, got one from Halfords (Gt Yarmouth) and they said they went out of stock but they just got a new load in, all the boxes I looked at were V8 and came with the latest stable release of the software V2.7 (I assume 2.82 is still a beta?) so if this applies to all the Halfords stores and they all have new stock, I assume it should be V8.
PS, yes, the staff in there had NO idea what I was on about when asking about the map version.0 -
yeah 2.82 is a beta.0

You have the latest map version(V8) because the box mentions the word 'navigator', if it was the old version(V7) it would say 'select' instead.
To check, Go to settings>map>mapsource, and it should say V8.0
