OP - have you contacted Boots or RLP today for more information or some sort of explanation?

Agree entirely, apart from the bit about testers.Make up arrives at the shops already labelled "testers",it's probably so hard to find because it's been used up-by kids..
then the shop needs to renew their testers. I won't buy make up without testing the colour first as they never look like their lids (I'm think lipsticks which is what I buy most of as it's a bit of an addiction:o ).

I've asked for a tester in Boots only to be told they've all been stolen! So I suppose the more they put out, the more get stolen. Maybe they need a full-time tester assistant but then that defeats self service shops! Not sure what the answer is really unless they superglue the testers to the displays ;)

I think it's general cut backs. I used to buy Avon lipsticks but my Avon rep started having a shortage of testers. After buying a couple and them being awful colours I not only sent the lipsticks back (which you can do with Avon) I stopped buying from her. I think Avon reps have to buy their own testers so a bit of a false economy for her as I know she lost a few customers from just my office.

Have to say when I've asked in Boots they just break the seal on one for me to test!

Sounds like a con to me.

First of all your daughter is not old enough to deal with anything like this by her self - they should need YOUR authorisation to speak to her not the other way round.

Second - why hasn't the store or police contacted you?

It sounds like they are trying to con your daughter out of £35 and her birth certificate - her ID - in the hope that she will be too scared to ask a responsible adult because of what they have accused her of.

Go to the police and report them.

I was going to say pretty much the above but now I see I don't need to.

Whether there is any basis in fact for their accusation, they clearly are taking the urine to be writing to a 14 year old in this manner and I would definitely be speaking to Boots in the first instance to see if they authorised the letter and to complain, and subsequently to the police if Boots say its nothing to do with them.
If you don't stand for something, you'll fall for anything

What will happen if you don’t pay?

If you fail to pay the compensation sought, our client reserves the right to commence legal proceedings to recover all of their financial losses, together with costs and interest. If a Court Judgment/Decree is obtained, this is likely to adversely affect your ability to obtain credit in the future. Bankruptcy proceedings may also be instigated.
Also from their website, although I have never once seen any thread where a court claim has actually been issued and the mention of bankruptcy proceedings is laughable since the minimum figure for that to happen is £750

Some people do end up being sued for those types of amounts, and I understand RLP have taken people to court.
