Finally, if you can't bear to read an opinion that differs from your own, then perhaps you are right not to come here too often.
nope , i simply dont come here as i offer helpfull advice and its questioned with mornic , inaccurate or hostile posts , read my first post as an example , i offer info to get costs down and yet its followed up with a tough shhit post which i then question , its a circular argument about freedom of speach or arrogence from the responant in that i should be able to respond to anything in contax of my own posting , i dont mind being questioned at all and enjoy expanding my knowledge but the manner at which people respond within this forum is surreal , at no point in the real world would someone talk to me in this manner , no-one shows such disrespect in real life and why it should be the norm online is beyond reason , i come here to maybe help people that the only reason im here , nothing more , i showed a reflection on whom i am and i feel sad that i should even need to type all this out lowering myself to feel a need to defend my actions0 -
If the seller made their P&P charges clear, what is there to complain about?
What is there to leave a neg about?
Direct costs:-
£5.00 for special delivery
£1.20 for packaging material
£1.30 staff time (wage cost * NIC&holidays * 8 packets per hour)
£1.35 VAT
£8.85
That's a whopping overcharge of 15p.0 -

Staff ? Vat?
Good grief.
Anyway, it is pointless trying to justify post and packing to us on here, we don’t matter only the buyer does. It is a risky business overcharging on p and p as buyers are asked specifically to rate the seller in stars for p and p..get their finger hovering over a 4* or even, horrors, a 3* and your business on ebay disappears.
Justify all you want, or paint a sad picture of underwaged school children trudging 3 miles uphill (both ways) to the PO with a single item at a time, but remember to consider exactly what your buyers might think.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. Well I've tried getting them to work for free, but they do complain terribly.
I wouldn't even consider holding out on the VATman. Waaaay to scary.
Just trying to illuminate the costs that exist in doing this stuff professionally that others might not understand fully. If you know it all already, soolin, then please ignore!0 -

Do you propose to explain all this to your buyers when they pay, or maybe put it in your auction or something? Otherwise buyer gets an item which they (not us, not your accountant or the lady doing your packing) but the buyer gets asked to rate you for postage.
Anyway I can only say this again:

I recently had a much mentioned (whinged about) case on here of a buyer in Malta who asked about a discount for buying multiple books, agreed an airmail price then after winning all the items told me it was too dear after all (it was actual postage plus about 80p and was expensive as books are heavy). She did leave me a positive but with the remark 'would have been cheaper to fly over and collect. She also hit my stars so bady I went from 4.9 to 4.7 on postage in a matter of days.
I can fully justify that postage, I weighed the books, calculated the postage and when it came to something like £14.82 (sorry can't remember exactly now) I rounded it up to £15 to include the packaging. Everyone here thought it was fair and that the buyer was being unreasonable, but it didn't matter they weren't rating me the buyer was . So I had to just sit and watch my stars plummet.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. I do explain this to my buyers in my auctions - although not to that level of granularity. But my purpose in posting here isn't to deal with my buyers; I thought it might be helpful to people here, and also aid countering the common misconception that postage = stamp cost.
For those of us lucky enough to have to add VAT, there is none on the stamps we buy but we must charge it on the P&P we charge. An instant 15% price increase. Thanks Gordon.
I understand the DSR rating system. I work as hard as I can to make postage costs clear up front. You can't please everyone (but then you only need to please about 95% of them).
Sorry to hear you got hit so badly by the one buyer - that is sad, but I'm sure your rating will bounce back up.0 -
excessive p&p to one side, i think this is as much to do with the the rating system as it is the actual costs.
i don't see anything "excellent" about p&p costs whatever they are. all of the other ratings are performance based, but p&p should be rated seperately with 5 stars being "fair", because at the end of the day thats what they should be.
theres something about the star rating system that reminds me of my annual reviews when i used to work in an office. set up so that you can't really win, but with the aim that hopefully it persuades you to try your hardest.:grouphug:
no wonder he has a smile on his face...0 -
I do agree -- that DSR does appear to be a question:- "would you like it cheaper?".
Even people who ship for free don't get flat fives on that score.0 -

Just to be clear, my post that follows your first was in response to the OP. Had I been responding to yours, then I would have quoted, but apologies if that was not clear.
From a personal point of view, I don't post what I wouldn't be prepared to say to someone in person. I'm a fairly streight talking person (and appriciate the same back) and don't apologise for that.0
