I had a search for info on dyeing taffeta and apparantly silk taffeta can be dyed easily but polyester taffeta doesnt take dye well.I contacted AA re the fabric and got a reply within a couple of hours.Unfortunately its made with poly taffeta so can,t be dyed.
Only option then is to have one made.I am going to try the dress on again in 2 weeks time and just double check what bits if any I would want changed from the AA design."Reaching out to touch the stars dont forget the flowers at your feet".0 -

I think the original dress is lovely. Are you a winter or summer wedding as you could explore adding a coloured wrap, flowers, jewellery, headdress etc. to get the colour look you want. Even cheeky purple shoes peeping out from your dress.
You have a long time to have your wedding photos to haunt you so think how they will be viewed by your grandchildren:D

Have you thought of getting one like that Alfred Angelo made in purple? I'm not sure what the cost difference would be?
I got married in purple and had an Alfred Angelo dress but it was a bridesmaids dress. Still, look niced and "bridey" though

I have searched through all the aa dresses for anything in purple but I have fallen in love with this shape, and more importantly this shape loves me:D ,they just dont have anything in the bridesmaid range similar enough. Not that I have managed to find anyway.
I did try the white and was very, very surprised that it suited. It made me look like I have a tan and I dont.Having been a goth when I was younger and never having worn white I just assumed I would look ridiculous in a white wedding dress, but actually I dont.So I may end up with a white dress and purple flowers. My family will die of shock if they see ME in white.OH may run a mile though as one of the things he specified was NO WHITE as its too traditional and it will just look like everyone elses wedding."Reaching out to touch the stars dont forget the flowers at your feet".0 -

Winter wedding.I will need a wrap or coat so yes I could get the purple in there as well as have purple flowers. The other thing I was looking at was purple lighting, then everything white would look purple when I wanted it too, later in the evening and at dinner I could have the purple lights on for a different effect."Reaching out to touch the stars dont forget the flowers at your feet".0 -
Purple shoes and accesories (a wrap) will be far easier to get hold of. If you buy silk dupion shoes, they will dye beautifully. Also, flowers. Had you thought of buying purple netting and ask the florist to incorporate this into the pew ends (if you are having them) I think you may have it sussed shelvesofstufftobuy.0

I felt like that for my first wedding and thought I'd choose a black or red dress, but as the time grew nearer, I found myself wanting to go with tradition and be the princess in the meringue! I went with cream/ivory in the end....
This time around, I'm wearing white - it'll be the only white dress I ever wear! And, as someone said on another thread, most people do choose ivory these days, so you wouldn't be totally going with the 'herd' as it were if you chose white, especially if you make it your own 'look' by using purple as your accent colour. I think that would look fantastic!!0 -

Totally agree Minxy. Can the men wear purple ties? Someone posted a piccy of a purple bouquet which was fantastic. Using the "goth" theme, you can always incorporate black into the theme too. Use candels etc. Try making a "wedding board" (if that's what they are called. ) Take the picture of the dress and stick it onto a large piece of card. Then collect shades of purple, black, pictures of things you may like to use for the wedding. Soon you'll have a good idea of how you want the theme to go.
Had you thought about getting a purple nett petticoat to go underneath so when you lift the gown, it peeps out?
What about a cape? Surely you could buy a cape from a specified shop?
I'm getting all excited for you. :j0 -
Purples my fav colour and although I used to be a gothy type when I was younger and still usually only wear black and purple I dont want a goth wedding(I am much more of an M&S 'per una' kinda girl now,or a bit of a hippy who is afraid of colour):p
Definately am having purple though and OH is wearing black and a purple brocade waistcoat so it all may end up a bit gothy even with me in white.
I do love the idea of a flash of purple under the dress so theres something a bit cheeky when I pick up my skirts to go up stairs, dance etc.;)"Reaching out to touch the stars dont forget the flowers at your feet".0
