20 reasons never to fly Ryanair

No more Aer Lingus flights from Newcastle to Dublin after April I'm afraid. Ryanair are also cutting back from 14 to 9 flights a week. Apart from Friday and Sunday the last flight from Dublin to Newcastle will leave at 6.25am!
That explains a lot! Good job I'll be living there by mid-April!0 -
There must be more nonsense written about Ryanair than any other airline.
You want to fly from A to B so you shop around and find the TOTAL price, and when you`re happy you buy the ticket,
be it Ryanair or whoever.
Well yes - but at least by repute you never know what the TOTAL price is with Ryanair until you have boarded and paid whatever random extras they might sting you for at the airport. That may or may not be unfair - but it's an impression many people have.0 -
this is probably the biggest single complaint about r/air - stranded at an aiport with no means of getting home same day isn't funny or moneysaving, as I found out.One of the complaints against Ryanair is that it is indeed perfectly willing to leave passengers stranded and wash its hands of them. Ryanair are fine if you get a dirt cheap fare and there are no operational problems. But if things go wrong believe me you'll want to be with someone else.
I won't bore you with the details (if you want to know what can - and sometimes does- go wrong, take a look over on ryanaircampaign. ignore the more obvious whinges and you'll see what I mean).
I'd take a chance with them travelling alone. but with kids? NEVER!0 -
I recently got a 1p flight with Ryanair to "Frankfurt" and it really did cost me only 1p, and I don't have an electron card. I paid with solo I think, or Visa.
My only problem with Ryanair is that both Stansted and "Frankfurt" are too far out of my way to make it worthwhile. It makes a simple journey to Germany a whole day's work, plus the expense of getting to and from airports makes the cost add up.
Also as someone said above, flying with a disabled person is just awful, even if you have priority boarding. I'll never take my husband Ryanair again.
We used to fly Germanwings to STuttgart, but that is no longer relevant. Germanwings ispretty good, but they have only a few destinations, and again, Stansted. Sometimes I go to Hamburg and Germanwings used to fly Gatwick-Hamburg, now that's gone.
In June I'm going to Hamburg wirh Easyjet, £30 one way, and a flight form Luton. Luton is brilliant for me; there's a direct train form Brighton.0 -
Bring on the Ryanair bashers...!!!.....quite a sorry grumpy, group of individuals actually!
Long live Michael O'Leary....
Long live Ryanair..........
Long live the givers of freedom of the skies and expanders of our horizons...!!

But it keeps the Ryanniar name in the press....all free publicity is good publicity...0 -
15 years ago my wife and I flew from Glasgow to Malaga return for 1 week in March for a total of £440 pounds. This was with a charter airline as there was no other direct flight. For £440 we got 20 kilos of luggage each and we had in flight meals which were edible and allocated seats. We had to be at the A/Ps 2 hours in advance.
This year we flew Ryanair Glasgow Prestwick to Malaga return for £80 for both of us. For this £80 we got 2 seats wherever we could find them (no problems), 10 kilos of carry on luggage each, and no meals. We had to be at the A/P 40 mins in advance.
I struggle to think of what the price would be now if it wasn't for Ryanair etc. Even if people do not use Ryanair then, IMHO, they still owe them and the other low cost airlines a debt of gratiude as fares in all aircraft have fallen dramatically as a result of their low fares
Nearly came to see you on Friday, ferry was in Largs but couldn't persuade OH to go. If you live in such a lovely place do you need to go away?0 -
Just booked flights to dublin for 4 adults august bank holiday weekend. The cheapest way to do it was aer lingus outbound, ryanair back. I have paid for 1 checked bag for me (we can get enough stuff in 15kg for a w/e in the height of summer I hope). Does this article tell me that:
a) I can't check in online for free cos I have hold baggage
b) If i have to pay check in at the airport for 1 bag carrying passenger, I have to pay for all 4
c) Even though I have booked these flights in March, due to an increase in charges from May, it could cost me £80 at the airport?
If this is the case, it may be cheaper to stuff the ryanair return flight and fly back with aer lingus, this may be less than the £80 airport charge.
Please can someone clarify for me.0 -
I'm not a Ryanair basher, I have used them many times back and forth to Ireland and I used to know how to go about getting the best deals. I also agree that the Times piece is an example of lazy journalism.
But I have just tried to book flights for me and my 18-month-old daughter from Leeds to Dublin on Ryanair. I have not been to Ireland since before she was born so it is a couple of years since I used the airline.
I know that my free flight is not free. I am happy for them to pretend it's taxes I am paying and will be happily complicit in the deception. But now things have gone too far. My return flights were £77 with all the taxes. So I thought.
Then it emerges I have to check in 'at the airport' rather than online because I am travelling with an infant. This will cost £20. So with a heavy heart I tick the box.
Then I find it'll be another tenner for paying with a card. Yes that's right, the only way you can pay is by card and that costs nearly a tenner. I mean if there was an option to pay cash (obviously not possible when everything is online) then it would make it no less of a rip-off but at least there would be a scintilla of logic.
So it is now £107. Now I don't mind paying that, but then what if I find my bag doesn't fit/weigh the correct amount? I mean I'll try but my brother has seen plenty of people get turned back from the gates when they have passed the first size test but not the second. It's not just that you get clobbered with a charge but you also might miss the flight because you have fallen foul of rules that are difficult to follow (easy to follow if you are carrying nothing, but difficult if you have bags that come close to the limit - theoretically your bag should pass the test but there's always the worry that you'll be inspected by Mr Barstard). Not a risk I want to take.
Where does this madness stop? Give me a price, and give me clear rules, as I had before, when I had no problem using Ryanair. I am the first to say just play by their rules and get a cheap flight, but it's not so simple anymore. I would rather pay Aer Lingus £150 and travel - inconveniently as I live near Leeds Airport - from Manchester just to have the peace of mind of knowing not much can go wrong.0 -
Not a journalist but a troll who has hacked into the website I think !!
And that's from someone who has been stranded by Ryanair a long way from home but would still use them again if they offered the best deal for me.0
