20 reasons never to fly Ryanair

There must be more nonsense written about Ryanair than any other airline.
You want to fly from A to B so you shop around and find the TOTAL price, and when you`re happy you buy the ticket,
    be it Ryanair or whoever.
  • Never had a problem with Ryanair myself after flying with them a few times. Always on time, takeoff and landing, 10kg hand baggage allowance which is more then enough for 5 nights in the middle of winter in Latvia when you have to take heavier clothes, in a 2 hours flight do we really need to spend money on the flight on the overpriced food and drink (which is just as expensive on other lowcost airlines) etc etc.

At the end of the day, if they are cheap, we get our flights cheap ie for a penny or 2, then do we really have much cause for complaint unless we are left stranded somewhere? I don't think so.

One of the complaints against Ryanair is that it is indeed perfectly willing to leave passengers stranded and wash its hands of them. Ryanair are fine if you get a dirt cheap fare and there are no operational problems. But if things go wrong believe me you'll want to be with someone else.

We used to fly regularly to France on Ryanair and found it cheap but horrible. They used to board very oldies and children first but now they don't seem to and the sight of elderly people hobbling across the tarmac, being mown down by the able bodied makes me feel ashamed of humanity. Flights are still cheap but you almost need a degree in working out what you have to do to get the best rates, and you can get expensively stranded in places if they decide not to fly your flight home - which they often do. In September we flew BA to Geneva, using all our Tesco-acquired airmiles. The flight went from Heathrow (v convenient for us), gave us allocated seats - and a choice, seats were wide with lots of legroom, the snack meal was fine (you don't expect gourmet cuisine on a 50 mins flight anyway) and the staff friendly. I used to think BA were horrible, but not any more ! We have now decided that we will not fly Ryanair ever again but will save up and go Flybe or other 'proper' airlines if we have to fly. I realise that's a personal decision which we choose to make, but I feel really strongly that Ryanair cynically take advantage of our greed, treating its passengers worse and worse, knowing that we'll just put up with it, whatever they do. Well we won't again. (not that they care or that it would make any difference to them if just two of us choose not to fly with them. But I feel better having deliberately rejected them.)
  • I can name a very good reason to fly with them. Where else can you get a ticket for 1p if booked the right way?

I've flown Ryanair about 8 times in the past 3 months and never had anything go really wrong with it. The cabin staff are friendly enough, and I'm not daft enough as to go paying for drinks on the plane.
It's not even a case of getting there early to be first to board the plane, it's just if your near the front you do. I arrived 50 minutes before departure and was 4th on the plane last time.
I very rarely pay anything over £100 for a return and thats just at weekends. (Newcastle-Dublin so a cheap route) so I'm happy with the service and cost. They get me where I want to go and thats enough for me!

The only thing thats relatively annoying is that in Dublin they ALWAYS seem to take off late. And the flight times, it's either really early or really late. If it got really bad I'd go with Aer Lingus whose times are afternoon arrivals and departures for about £20 more

No more Aer Lingus flights from Newcastle to Dublin after April I'm afraid. Ryanair are also cutting back from 14 to 9 flights a week. Apart from Friday and Sunday the last flight from Dublin to Newcastle will leave at 6.25am!

This is a risk I am prepared to take for 1p.

I think O'Leary really loves to annoy the jounalists (e.g. the £1 toilet windup) and the journalists then write these articles to get back at him. All very childish and doesn't actually inform the public properly, which is what the journalists are there for.

Well yes but the £1 toilet windup may well misfire and lose him custom though if enough people think it's real
  • Love him or hate him, Michael O'Leary does have a great sense of humour.

    Ancillary revenue suggestions:
Charging for toilet paper – with O’Leary’s face on it,
    · Charging €2.50 to read the safety cards,
    · Charging €1 to use oxygen masks,
    · Charging €25 to use the emergency exit,
    · Charging €50 for bikini clad Cabin Crew.
