csa and redundancy

I have been divorced now form my ex wife for 4 years . I have not seen my 2 boys for 18 months as she moved away without my knowledge . I have paid her every month since we split through the CSA and continue to do so . I have no problems with paying for my childrens up keep , but it does annoy me she has been allowed to play god and take them away and the CSA do not get involved on a case by case basis i.e a father willing to pay but denied access !
Anyway my main question is I am being made redundant in May and want to know what the CSA will take into account . I am being paid 11 weeks leu of notice and also a lump sum payment of around 28k . From what I have found out the 28k will not be taken into account ( which i will need this to pay my mortgage and bills and look after my current wife and children ) but the leu of noitce will be . Does anyone know if this is correct ?

I can confirm receiving exactly the same information from the CSA. Not that their website is exactly helpful on the matter.0

Dont know what the lieu of notice is, but if you are going to get a lump sum from your redundancy couldn't you maybe put a years worth of maintenance away for your 'first family' so that they are supported at least for a while, cause altho your second family need to be supported so do your children from your first relationship as much as the ones from your second.0 -
Check that your contract says something regarding payment in lieu of notice.(PILON) This is taxable and attracts Ni too. If you see nothing in your contract about PILON they cannot deduct tax and NI and it is counted as 'compensation' I didnt know this until a few weeks ago through looking at the boards. PILON may be counted by the CSA but compensation may not be.make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.0 -

I agree with your sentiments here, but as his ex wants to 'play god' and not let him see his children, then I wouldn't put anything away.
And yes, I am waiting to be hung, drawn and quartered on this but it is only my personal opinion.
My advice to the op would be to let the state (csa) sort out what he has to pay whilst he is out of work.
He should of course, advise them in writing, sent by recorded delivery, when he is actually made redundant. (Same day if possible)
Never ever deal with them by phone.0 -
Is there no recourse here for non custodial parents who are denied access to their children? Unbelievable.......however......paying child support for your children and access should not be related.....they are two distinctly different matters.
Is the OP in a position to get court ordered visitation?
I had to move from Canada to the UK for work reasons.....however, my sons still have weekly (at least) telephone calls with their dad (still in Canada) and go out for summer holidays, Christmas and sometimes the two week break in the spring. Situations change - but it should be against the law to disallow contact!0 -
Yes it should be, as well as result in the stopping of all CSA payments untill contact is restored. This is were the CSA is used as a weapon by PWC to extract the most from their ex's both emonitionally as well as financially! It is revenge pure and simple!0

Why dont you call the CSA information line and they will be able to help you. Sorry hear about your job.0

Is it ok the other way too - no maintenance then no contact?
No wait...who suffers in this petty game of tit for tat by an immature PWC and a greedy NRP - ah yes, it's the children
