Australia - 2 Weeks Long Enough?

I have a couple of weeks off work in June and not having booked anything yet we were talking about where to go. Having canceled plans to go to Oz last year due to the loss of my job we wondered if we could afford it this year.

Looking at flights I can get return flights for £570 each, ridiculously cheap! Do you think 2 weeks is long enough to do it justice? I am not in the position to get 3 weeks together.

I would be staying with a friend so comparing that to say, a week in London, I would be paying the same for a 4 star hotel and return flights. It may be the last chance I get for a long time so what do you think?

you will loose at least 2 days in travelling, plus jet lag would probably hit bad. unless you only wanted to spend 2 weeks in sydney for instance or the surrounding areas, or darwin and the national parks etc, i would say 3 weeks would be miniumum.

due to the size of the country, travelling around and covering a lot of ground would be difficult, but nothing stopping you going to sydney for instance and spend a couple weeks there and the surrounding areas ie the blue mountains etc, but to cover a lot of ground, you will need more time

Thanks. We would be based in Perth so due to it's location we would probably be staying in the 1 location anyway. The most important thing os for us to see our friend and his new wife and his family who all moved there too.

We went to Australia for 16 days and had a great time. It obviously became 14 days because of the flying. We went to Sydney, Ayers Rock, Cairns and Melbourne and did everything that a tourist would/could do. We were shattered when we got home but had a fantastic time. Oh the memories! I think you should be fine if you're just staying in one location.

The flight to perth is a bit shorter being on the west coast. It is very isolated from other major cities, i'd recommend just visit the west coast. there is plenty to do to keep you occupied for 12 days or so. we have been twice. and there's margaret river area 3 hrs down the coast for wineries or monkey mia and sharks bay up the west coast but it's a long drive

You say you'll be based in Perth, so maybe you should just stay on the west coast, but I did 2 weeks on the east coast and it was great.
5 days in Sydney, 5 days in Cairns and 2 days in Uluru, and it was plenty of time for those places.

To be honest, I'm a bit tired of people who say they need at least 3 weeks (or 1 month, or 3 months, or...) to see Australia or New Zealand, and deride those who due to work and other commitments (even money...) can only spare 2 weeks at a time. Well guess what: to see Portugal (my country) properly, you also need several months, but nobody thinks less of you if you just want to spend 2 weeks lounging in the sun in the Algarve, right? So why is down-under any different?

I spent a year in OZ and have been back a few times - there's still loads I haven't seen (I didn't ever get to the West Coast, but saw lots of other things). I've spent over 34 years in the UK and there's still loads I haven't seen!!
Go for two weeks. "Bulldoze" through the jetlag (force yourself to stay up until the evening - Perth time - rather than sleep). Basically ignore jet lag and enjoy your two weeks in Perth and the surround.
I agree that to have a "fuller" trip, the longer the better, but if you've got two weeks - go for it!!

Yes to Perth. Perhaps the evening flights would increase your holiday time.

yes depends on what you want to do there, but 2 weeks is long enough if your visiting friends. expect to be jet lagged when you get back so if you get a day off work when you land just to sleep (which you will) then youll have a great time. and perth has lots to offer, from the commercial east coast. great beaches, perth city is a beautiful city, yiu must visit kings park in perth, and enjoythe stunning views over swan river and over the city.
the list can go on, obvioulsy you cant do it all, but yes you can do it.
