cancelling direct debit with vodafone

hello

can someone help me - not sure where I stand.....

Recently renewed a new contract with vodafone - and received my first bill and it is more than I had agreed. Just phoned them and was advised to call 14 day returns tomorrow - but to be honest I am not sure why I should go chasing up their mistakes. Where would I stand if I just simply cancelled my direct debit ?

cheers for any advise

You would still be under contract and obliged to pay them.

Really they should amend your direct debit amount or put a hold on your account so it doesn't take the incorrect amount from your bank.

You could cancel if you are within the 14 day rule

If you keep the phone and stop the DD they could bar (and a default on your credit) your phone as you will owe them money.

I have had this trouble many times on renewals with o2.

You could claim the money back under the DD scheme from your bank but the same might happen as above.

make sure you cancel everything correctly with vodaphone, if they advised you to call tomorrow to cancel - then call tomorrow - you need to ensure any deal you are on is cancelled properly - simply cancelling dd with your bank will not cancel any contract u have set up

Yes, don't only cancel your DD or like the others have advised you, you might inadvertently find yourself in hot water. I would be inclinded to put it in writing too either letter or e-mail. The problem with phone call cancellation instructions is that you have no proof that you've done so. I'm quite surprised that they accept cancellations over the phone (I don't with my customers) unless Cancellations isn't them but Retentions instead and they want you to change your mind.
Mortgage free as of 10/02/2015. Every brick and blade of grass belongs to meeeee. :j

Is it not more because of pro-rata billing?

don't cancel the DD, that does not end your contract with them.

    Cancel with them directly.
  • HI there ... you will be lucky if you manage to get thru to 14 day returns -- you have to speak to customer services then they will put you thru to that xn. I've tried several times and only once got thru after an hour of holding on (in the morning, at about 10/11am). To cover yourself, email customer services, cancelling the contract -- give the order number if you have one -- and also write a letter to their head office and send recorded, so they can't deny they're received it. The Vodafone forum is also a good way to get it sorted out -- the guys there genuinely do try to sort out problems although they will take a day or so to reply to your posting and will ask u to email them with your details. Don't just cancel the DD as you are still liable ... it's a load of hassle, be warned - they don't make it easy!

Hiya, have a quick check of the dates you are paying for under the tariff part. In general 1st bills are for 6 weeks and not 4. worth having a look.

Yea, check that its not pro-rated, also you may have been charged for calls while you thought you were in your allowance but for the first day or so you were pro-rated.

Have vodafone admitted it is a billing fault or do they say it is correct?

If they say it is incorrect, cancel your DD with your bank and ask them to send the bill for a recalcualtion and to place the acc on hold and pay 2 bills next month...

Are you actually wanting to cancel the contract or get it sorted?
