  • First timer at this - so here goes!

    1) Add to £2 club
    2) Try and have 3 no spend days
    3) Do daily spend sheet (does this include things like petrol, mortgage payments etc - or should this just be for incidentials?
    4) Make sure OH joins in with both of above
    5) Pay my friend the £30 I owe her for buying her freezer!! Should have done it before, but haven't had chance to see her - too busy reading MSE!!!
When you were born, you were crying and everyone around was smiling. Live your life so at the end, you're the one who is smiling and everyone around you is crying! :rotfl:

    Well here goes, fingers crossed:
    * Have at least 2 spend free days
    * List as much as possible on ebay
    * Take packed lunch to work everday
    * Do not go out and buy chocolate at lunch time - if I need a 'hit' have a hot choc - free!
    * Payday on Tues 28th Feb - ensure all direct debits have gone over to pay off debts etc and take out £10 cash for emergencies - try to leave cards at home
  • Hello everyone,

Everyone's goals sound great! I've had time to have a think through mine while face painting 75 faces at the local theatre! This was unpaid but for charity, Waverley Care.

My goals for next week are:-

*4 no spend days - Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday
*Sort out finances with OH - there's a story here for all of you but I'll tell you when I've a bit more time and everything has calmed down a bit
*Make lots of things for my craft fair including signs and business cards

I think that's enough for this week - its been a bit crazy here!

Sue - can I suggest how you achieve this? Come and join in on the daily thread here on the DFWannabe forum, it's usually called 'What have you spent today - 26/02/06' or similar.

It's up to you which transactions you list, but in general people tend to put lists of the things that they've paid that day in person (ie from wallet, chqbook or card) rather than all the direct debits etc that may go out that day.

Like this thread it's great for concentrating your mind and efforts :D

Ever wonder about those people who spend £2 apiece on those little bottles of Evian water? Try spelling Evian backward.
  • :hello:
Ok here goes my first post here.
    This week will:

    1. Have 2 no spend days
    2. Pay off Amazon CC £100 and cancel card
    3. Stick to menu plan and do not buy food at work.

First week so I think I'll leave it at that!!
  • I'm new to all of this as well, so here goes, I would like to achieve 3 no spend days nxt week, do some batch cooking, as I hate cooking and I think doing alot in one go sounds better than slaving each evening in there!! I really need to sit down and sort finances out, it is getting well scary!!! OH and I have stopped smoking, into our 3rd week, so thats saving money....isnt it???

£4 in £2 csc only started on friday

    Good luck to everyone!!

    Okay, last weeks goals first:
    1. Update spending spreadsheet because I haven't caught it up for a couple of months budgets - well I started this but certainly haven't caught up yet. I was very shocked to find that actually I haven't done this since the paymonth of Sept-Oct. (I do keep track day to day but don't feel I see the bigger picture until it all goes on the main spreadsheet.) I'd like to be able to report that I've done a significant amount of the catching up but I haven't done that yet either. Bump for the new week!
    2. Have 2 no-spend days - no, managed one (today). In mitigation I really did try on this one and things just conspired against it.
    3. Tidy an area of the house (think it should be area on top of chest of drawers in bedroom) - um, no.
    4. Put £6 aside that isn't £2 coins ready for window cleaner! - I did this, but without thinking about it since I had to take it back as I then had absolutely no cash on me. I will achieve this today though, OH can give me change for a £10 and then the £6 is back in place.
    5. Only spend points in Boots - achieved :D I liked this one, it really kicks over any drift towards unneeded deals because most of them involve cash spent for points gained. Might get drummed out of the Boots Tarts League now though! ;)
    6. Sort out sensible shopping order for Tesco.com to use points voucher which expires 26/2 - still under consideration as the 26/2 is not quite over yet! I've really wrestled with this as I'm just not sure a £50 spend at Tesco.com is my best choice. I may let this one go and call it as a no-score.
    7. Pay Debenhams card balance £21.58 - done and dusted.

In answer to Kath's question about goal-setting, I'm giving myself goals that prod buttock a little ;) They tend to be things that I want and intend to do - but procrastinate about actually getting round to - especially while I could be on these boards instead.

I'd also like to confess that I was a bit shocked not to achieve the list above - I have no real excuse for failing on the tidying or the financial updates other than it getting later and later in the week. So this process is going to be good for me!

    Right, new goals:
    1. Update spending spreadsheets, including Jan-Feb 06 as that closed on the 23rd (day before payday)
    2. Have 2 no spend days
    3. Tidy an area of the house *and* spring clean kitchen
    4. Plan grocery shopping thoroughly - I can save £5 against a £50 instore shop with a Sainsburys voucher and it occurs to me that I can probably do this in Tesco instead
    5. Investigate freezer contents because two missing dishes have made me aware I'm not sure what lurks at the bottom!
    6. Investigate savings accounts for Christmas Club as Halifax 7% comes to an end in March
    7. Two days chocolate free

I'd like to wish everyone else luck and resolve in achieving your aims :T

Update: last week I wanted to:

    Add one £2 coin
    Keep spending diary
Get one day's paid work (please don't let it snow again...)

    I added two coins
I did keep my spending diary, added it up in three different ways, and still concluded I had spent too much...
It did snow, so no work.
But I did also book and pay the deposit for stalls at this year's plant fairs, and I cancelled my book club membership, so I won't be tempted to buy books I don't really want.

So, for this week, I would like to:

    Add two £2 coins
    Continue spending diary
Cancel one magazine subscription, and replace with one I would prefer
Send for some things for the small enterprise I have in mind
As there is a bad forecast, I am not going to mention work!

    Good luck everyone!
