  • My update from last week:

have SIX no spend days! I only needed shampoo today, and i have a cupboard full of food - therefore no spend this week!
Well I managed thi, hooray! And only spent £3 on the 7th day! :D

Earn at least £20 selling stuff on ebay (though I dont have a lot to sell!)
Really beat this, sold £70 worth of stuff when I thought it would only go for around £20 :)

Earn at least £100 with Ann Summers parties (I have two this week which means this should be feasible!)
Sadly both my parties this week cancelled (grumble grumble) so I didnt make a bean this way :(

    Get more party bookings!
    Again, nothing. sigh.

Finish chapter 3 of my dissertation
This is the real success story of the week - I finished my ENTIRE dissertation, chapters 3, 4 and 5 - by pulling around 8-12 hours a day working on it :) Its not due until late April but I really wanted to get it done so I could worry about other things!

    This week's goals:

    Have another 6 no-spend days

Do really really well at the big AS pub party I have on Friday!

Digitise all my dissertation illustrations (about 30)

Try and get a recruit to replace me when I leave Ann Summers
  • Ok this is the first time I've done this so here goes.

    1) Take breakfasts and lunches to work every day this week

    2) Buy NO magazines - I'm a magazine addict!!

    3) Have 4 no spend days

    4) Move all the spare money from the joint account to our savngs for when we go to Barcelona at end of March.

Think that should be plenty for this month . . .
    Comping Challenge
Win back your annual internet connection costs
    Goal - £132

    Won so far
Charles Worthington Dream Hair Kit £20
10 Sets of Football stamps £5
    Ainsley Harriet Cookbook £20
Months supply of Copella juice £12
Another Cookbook - Not received it yet, so don't know what it is :confused
  • Not joined in with this before, but I suspect it will really motivate me if my weekly goals are available for people to see (and pull me up on if I slip!) rather than just in my head!

    Hokay... so.

Sell another £50's worth of stuff on eBay (should be easily done, I think)

    Have 4 spend free days

My weekly budget for this month is £40, but I would like to be able to only spend half of that this week. (not counting the £20 of prescriptions I'll need to pick up this week, as now I've ordered a pre-payment certificate, I'll be able to reclaim it until the card comes through)

Pay the full coin bags in my coin stash into my savings account (only about £6 in full bags, but every little helps!)

Pay the cheque I received yesterday for £70, and the ones on their way from eBay stuff into bank account, and from there to one of my credit cards.

Pay at least £100 off of my credit card (see above)

Start the ball rolling for my DLA appeal (found out on Friday that they're dropping my benefit by approx £270 p/month from May onwards for no reason I can fathom, as I have got worse, not better since they awarded me the higher amount!)
    Highest Debt (Sept 04) -> £41,300 :(
    Debt Free - August 2006!! :D

  • Failed miserably last week. Goals were

    1. Two no spend days:- NOT ONE
    2. cancel gym membership:- Didn't get round to it!
    3. List something on ebay:- didn't

On the excuses side everyone was ill so very little time as running around after them all but still!

    So for this week

    1. Two no spend days
    2. cancel gym membership
    3. plan grocery challenge so achieve it this month.
    £2 savers club £28 :j

    Hi
    Goals last week were:
Do not use tumble dryer!Have not used dryer for 2 wks now!! am still getting up a little earlier and putting washing on rads!!!
    List more on ebay:
    Have listed loads on ebay!!!
Do not touch 2.00 coin savings:
Have not touched but added :j

    This week
    Do not use tumble dryer.
    List even more on ebay.
Cut smoking down by 50% (i know i should stop altogether but to much other stuff going on!!)
Do not rescue Next directory out of bin!!! :rotfl:
  • I totally have to start being much better at all of this.

Have just had to pay through the nose for 2 flights as live on a rock and so the airlines charge ridiculous prices unless you book months in advance. My dad is giving me something towards them as am coming home to see my gran and my aunt on both occasions as one is ill and one is over from the states so I wouldn't normally be going otherwise.

Owed the OH a xmas pressie as he took one of them back so he claimed a pair of shoes yesterday for £80.

Was going to revert back to blonde next weekend but the thought of the cost (in excess of £100) has made me think twice - I may simply stay brunette until next pay day.

Then my car tax is due at the end of March, as well as a service and a new tyre!!! I was doing so well but have spent far too much this month already.

So, getting round to my goals then -

    1. Take sarnies to lunch every day this week (have already bought bread, ham and cheese).

    2. Don't spend anything for the rest of the week - we have salmon in the freezer as well as a whole chicken. I may just buy some mushrooms and make omlettes for some of the time this week.

    3. Try to stop booking weekends away. We are going to watch england on 18 march and I am paying for hotel as OH paid for the one we are staying in over may BH.
I want to be a writer

I joined in a couple of weeks ago, but failed at everything! :o

However, this is a new week and I'm determined this time!

    Goals for this week:

    1) - List my items on Ebay (money raised to go into wedding savings)

    2) - Help OH list his items on Ebay (he is saving to pay his insurance in full when he has his car back on the road, rather than sticking it on his credit card)

    3) - Have ordered a printer to get CV's and job applications sent off quickly (only had once a week access to a printer before), so want to get at least 4 applications sent this week.

    4) - Pay £2 coins into savings account.

    5) - Have a few books to sell, so will have a go at selling on Amazon.

    6) - Research business idea - have had an idea for a part time business which I could do in conjunction with a full time job.

Good luck with your business scottishspendaholic!
  • I did only mediocre to wonderful last week… hee hee. :p Missed out making a new type of bread (Italian loaf) in the Bread Maker but will do it this week…. but did manage three no-spend days instead of two – hooray and planted the first veggie seeds..… :D

This week will be difficult one money wise as I need to do the big Tesco shopping and also have my six-monthly dental check up/polish etc – always expensive….and it’s also the start of the new month so budget and expenditure spreadsheets need checking….. and double checking…lol… My tasks this week will be….

    1. Double check the spreadsheets
    2. Double check my Tesco shopping list and remove non-essentials
    3. Bake a new type of loaf in the Bread Maker – Ciabatta sounds tasty
    4. Weep bucket loads of tears when the dentist gives me my bill
    5. Do at least two no-spend days…maybe three if possible
    :)The £2 Coin Savers Club = £346.00 (£300.00 transferred to Savings a/c)

  • Thanks pixie1 here is an update on my goals for last week:

Put all saved change in credit union account - failed again
Sell more on Ebay - did well with this
Try not too spend too much with the kids being on half term holiday - spent about £25 on a couple of outings, so not too bad

    This weeks challenges will be:

    1. Have 2 no spend days
    2. Move all debt except 0% onto 6.95% balance transfer to Halifax CC.
    3. List a few items on Ebay
    4. Put change collected into credit union account.
    5. Reduce sky package down from £18 to £15, even try to get the 3 months at £7.50 if I can!!

    Good luck everyone.

Ok, have posted my update on the previous thread so here are my goals for the coming week:

Make some food to take on my long journey to avoid motorway service station prices (driving this time, not train!), allow purchase of one coffee only.

Make sure all ebay items are in Turbolister, updated and ready to go in the event of a 5p listing day in future.

Buy absolutely no food except for that necessary to make sandwiches or whatever for journey, as above.

    Have 2 no spend days.

Contribute at least one more £2 coin to the savings.

Well, I promised to make them a bit more challenging this week but it doesn't look like I've succeeded. I don't like coming on here and admitting i haven't done them, you see?

I set myself challenges for the week in other areas of life too (uni work, house work etc) and then I fall into the trap of making them too difficult and unachieveable. So, on that basis, maybe my challenge should be "spend no money", impossible with a 320 mile car journey to make and no petrol in the tank!

What does anyone else think, do you try to make them really or only moderately challenging?!

I guess even if they do seem easy, putting them down here does help me stick to them through the week. Maybe I could make one quite tricky goal for myself each week, not too much at once. At the moment I do fall into the trap of buying lunch at university (naughty me :naughty: ) because I can't get inspired to make my own food to take along. I just get bored of sandwiches and I need a kick up the bum to find some alternatives. I'm only there 2 days a week so not as bad as it could be but still :naughty:

Ok, then, another challenge for this week:

Spend some time looking for yummy, apetising and filling things to take as packed lunches. Use cookbooks, internet and OS board to do this (also ask mum when I see her ;) ). Then when I'm back home next week I can shop for ingredients and get started! Also, maybe, research slow cookers and recipes for them.

Apologies for the long, rambling, post! Thinking things through as I type, y'know, stream of conciousness like. Congrats if you read this far and any suggestions welcome!

Good luck to everyone for their challenges!! :D
