That is typical of this namby pamby government to reduce the speed limits even further. Cameras are an infringement of my basic right to drive my high powered car at the speed it was designed for. I am a very safe driver, and can quite safely exceed 70 in a 30 zone, unless some stupid pedestrian decides to cross the road without looking or being prepared to take rapid evasive action.

On topic: I use Pirelli MasterTw@t tyres which give me a combination of real grip and presence. The white walled tyres add to the elegance of the ChavuLike Rover 400 estate.

Hi mewbs how you doing? Do you paint the letters and numbers with tippex for maximum effect?

Hi Mr. B, doing fine thanks. Re story I'm afraid there wasn't an ounce of truth in it. But I'll remember the tippex tip.

Tyres have definitely shot up in price.

Last year I paid £53 per corner for a Michelin Energy for my Dads runabout Micra. And last month I paid £79 for a Michelin Energy for Mrs Vikings Corsa with a similar tyre size.

Luckily I fitted new Michelins to the Zafira bus 2 years ago and we only do 5k pa in it. And my 530d company car will be needing new boots soon......

I have romantic visions of germanic, noble, Viking savages, with orange hair and beards, rampaging through the north of England in the 17th Century with horned helmets and swords, all packed in to mint-green Vauxhall Corsas (1.1 Club edition).

For the last two years and nearly 30K miles my Mondeo diesel estate has been trundling about on "Federal" tyres 205/55 R 16 costing £50 each. The front ones were still legal but with the MOT coming up I've replaced them.
They were tuff old boots made in Taiwan. Not as good a ride as say Michelin and marginally worse at stopping BUT the time a car takes to stop is exponentially related to its speed.

This time round I'm trying a tyre called "Debica" costing £40 on the road. . This is a Polish brand name, from a factory equipped by Goodyear in Slovenia, that used to be the Yugoslavian owned Sava tyre factory. So work that one out.;)
These tyres have a not too pronounced directional tread and time will tell how long they last.

Am I the only one that has absolutely no idea what tyres are on their car? When I need new ones the man at the garage goes:

"We have cheap tyres that cost £X, but they tend to be rubbish. We have middle of the range ones made by <insert brand name here> that cost 2X and then these super dooper ones with writing on that cost 4X."

I go for the middle of the range ones.
