Tyre prices gone through the roof?

A bit off topic, but kind of related to the whole recession thing I guess.

Anyone bought any new tyres recently? I just had a quick look around on blackcircles and bestbuytyres and found that tyre prices seem to have gone through the roof!

Was just looking for a pair of the tyres I have bought before. Cost me £71 fitted around 6 months ago for one. So £142 fitted for both, bought through black cirlces.

Now, the same pair is going to cost £208, or £104 a tyre.

Just for refernce these are 205/50/16 Dunlop SP Sport Fast Response.

So what's all this about? High oil prices? Dollar vs Pound?

b4lls. Hope not. I need 4 .. er, in fact I need to check my MoT date too... it's "about nowish"

Phew... just checked, thought MoT might be this week ... but it's 26 April and tax on 30th. Hurrah ... as I now have 2 weeks' work so it'd be a pain if I'd not got the car :)

I think you just got a bargain before. My Mondeo takes the same size and premium brand tyres (mine wears Pirellis) have always been around the £100 mark.

Was just on black circles. May have got a bargain, but think I just paid the going rate, as remember their economy tyres were around £40 at the time, they are now over £60.

Always stay clear of the economy ones, but might try them out this time as they on the back anyway.

Have a look at Lassa tyres - I believe they are made by Bridgestone in Turkey and are much cheaper.

I used to pay around £200 front and £220 back per tyre now I pay £115 front £130 back - the supplier swears by them. I have found them to be better wearing than some of the more well known brands

I buy pre used tyres for about £25 each fitted. Have had some really quite good ones.

Hi Graham.....or should I be calling you Victor Meldrew?

Yesterday you were moaning about the price of a bottle of wine, today it's car tyres! I'm wondering what it will be next...

    Was I? News to me.
  • I paid £81-20 per tyre with Etyres last February. I see from their website that the price of the same tyres has fallen to £77-50 per tyre. So I suggest you shop around and check them out. Your size:

It's all down to exchange rates.

We have customer after customer coming in expecting to pick up bargains at cost price and finding our prices increased between 30%-40%...we buy in Euros and Dollars....that's just how it is.
