i remember reading an article / seeing a program this week, dont remember where though - there is apparently a global shortage of rubber. hence even scrap rubber tyres are being bought by many manufacturers for recycling. this might be the reason why prices are shooting up. will see if i can find the link. something to do about a shortage of rubber sap from trees etc.bubblesmoney :hello:0

There's nothing worse than some wiseacre saying 'I told you so', but I remember warning about widespread price rises a couple of months ago and being howled at by those here who want to believe there are only deflationary pressures on the UK economy.
Most trades selling imported goods (which means most trades) were aware of this before Christmas. It's partly due to the exchange rates but some of it is because of the dire manufacturing situation in China.
In some cases, wholesalers and distributors are facing rises as high as 70 per cent.
It's unlikely to get better in the short term so the moral remains: if you want it, buy it now. More or less, whatever it is!0 -

It's probably because of the exchange rate ?? The £ is on its a ss. And as we don't manufacture much anymore we are paying for it nowI came in to this world with nothing and I've still got most of it left. :rolleyes:0

Tyres are for the most part made from oil , the price of oil last year was daft. The lower demand for tyres now means they may still be using older raw materials and/or the lock in price negotiated when it was high.Have you tried turning it off and on again?0

Maybe if we set the speed limit to 30mph across the country we don't need the tread to be as deep and our tyres will last longer0

On topic: I use Pirelli MasterTw@t tyres which give me a combination of real grip and presence. The white walled tyres add to the elegance of the ChavuLike Rover 400 estate.0 -
There was nothing wrong with the Rover 400.
