It was a childhood thing Blackruby, I haven't had it since I was a teenager I guess but they wouldn't take them out, not sure what the policy was in the late 70s/early 80s but I used to get it so often :(

Glandular fever and tonsilitis, wow, poor girl. I'd get on and complain to your trust about the GP though, if you haven't already. It amazes me sometimes about how some GPs seem to miss things.

When I was 11, I started getting a pain in my right groin, top of my leg. Kept going back to the GP and he said it was muscular and perscribing ibuprofen, fast forward 4 months and I couldn't even walk on it. A different doctor came out for a home visit and sent me straight through to the hospital where an X-ray diagnoised an Unstable Slipped Capital Femoral Ephiysis (sp) where the growth plate has slipped off the head of the femur. I had an operation to put three screws in there, and apart from the torn cartilege which has developed over the last year, it's been ok.

I never forgave the GP for missing that, and since then I've been really mistrustful of GPs and am one to go for a second opinion if need be.

That's shocking BR, I can understand why you are wary of the GPs now. The A&E doctor stood there with her mouth wide open when I told her we'd taken jas in twice to the GP but they had said there was no swelling in her throat and the tonsils looked fine. Her throat was closed leaving just a small airway. Unbelievable isn't it. I wil complain but not right now, I'll leave that till things get a bit calmer here.

In the last 3 and a half years I've needed antibiotics for my throat at least once a year. I've got massive tonsils anyway, so when they get infected with something, I can't breathe very well, kinda wish they would just whip them out.

Oh Toto.....bless you...you must be worn out with the stress of it all. Is your OH away at the mo.....are you on your own....

He's here thank goodness, we're doing shifts at the hospital. I've stayed in overnight with her and he's doing the daytimes so I can be here with the younger ones.

It is, it absolutely is unbelievable. The GP may ring and apologise, he did with my mum, not to me though, still sore about that, I may have been 11 but I was the one in hospital. But my mum said it at the time 'They are the ones who are supposed to know what they are talking about.' But I say the patient or the patient's mum knows when something isn't right. You did the right thing and I'm glad she is doing a bit better.

I'm not sure really. I think they want to make sure she can keep herself hydrated and she needs to start taking in some food too, she's gone from 7 stone to 5 and a half stone in 2 weeks (she's 5'2"). The concern right now is getting her kidney function back to normal, which seems to be happening, she had 5 litres of fluid before she managed to wee, but that was mostly due to the dehydration. If she can't eat very well today they are going to start tube feeding because otherwise her internal organs will all start to suffer.

The problem is the combination of the 2 illness' she'll still have the glandular fever once the tonsils are better, and that makes eating hard. I doubt she'll be home for a few days yet.

Poor girl, it's scary when kids get admitted and I don't trust GPs either.
