why dont you try ringing cccs or national debt line, they are really helpful, I'm not surprised the CAB are so busy, its getting a bit scary!
Also, Im not sure if this is right but a few people have used CAP (Christians against poverty) while being on benefits. You dont have to be a christian at all and they seem to be really really helpful. Try googling them. I think they come to your house and have a face to face chat about things, then help you decide what you need to do and help you complete forms/ support you through it etc!
http://www.capuk.org/help/needhelp.php just found this, hope it helps
Sorry your struggling, it really is crap, isn't it xx0 -
Hi
There are several debt charities other than CAb.
http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/loans/debt-help-plan#help
All of them are pretty busy but I know several posters had very good service fron CAp, many from CCCS and NDL.
Big hugs.
And do you know about
https://www.freecycle.org
The Boost your income thread here
The freebies forum etc.
None worth more than £20-40 per month but between them they could make a difference and not affect your benefits. If you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing0 -
Thank you to everyone for your advice and support,
I went to my local CAB today,
The man said they have a very large debt case load so can only offer me help to sort this myself, a booklet and 1 template letter, told to copy and send to companys, asking for 2 month waiting time. I asked about DRO , but was told as i can only be offered help to sort this myself that is not applicable in my case.
so after a 3 hour wait and 20 min interview, i am none the wiser as to how to apply for DRO or BC.
Thank you again for your support and kind words.
Hi dizzymum and a welcome from me....
This post left me a little bit hopping mad, I have to tell you. It sounds to me like the advisor you saw at the CAB was a "general" volunteer rather than a specialist debt case worker. Do you know if this is correct? It sounds like you have been palmed off. May I suggest ringing them or looking online to see if they have special times or appointments to see debt workers. Yes, they are very busy but that does not mean that they should be half dealing with people when they finally do get in to see them.
Considering that DRO's are going to be set up by CAB staff, it is a bit stupid telling you that they are too busy to help. CCCS are not going to be dealing with DRO's.
I am sorry to rant a bit and it is always difficult when you feel it is such an uphill slog but I really would try and find out if there are more expert advisors there or in the area that can see you.
hugs

SA (and anyone else),
Is this correct? DROs will be CAB only? If so, what happens if people with problems phone up CCCS or National Debtline? Will they be advised to go to CAB instead? Is there not a danger that some might slip through the net and end up with a less suitable course of action?

Thanks again every one, i feel so much better, wish i had asked you all for help and advice weeks if not months ago.
I have lots of sites that have been recommend for me to read later when the kids are in bed, and i think i will try ringing National debtline on monday when little ears are out the way.
would really like to know answer to lily question about DRO being CAB only, i really hope not.0 -

Sorry Lily - I am at work and not 100% keeping up with the board!
I am not sure about National Debtline but yes the CAB are going to be dealing with DROs - a recent poster said that CCCS in effect turned them away because they wanted to go down the DRO route and they couldn't help them with that. Just going to look for debt doctors thread and I will post a link here.

Thanks SA!
Hello again, Dizzymum.
To my shame, I've no idea whether myvesta is a goody organisation or a baddy organisation, but I've found this link:
http://debtrelieforder.org.uk/commonly-asked-debt-relief-order-questions
Others will quickly chip in if I've inadvertantly directed you to the dark side (ie any organisation attempting to make money from helping people with debt)
Assuming the information here is correct, the DRO legislation only comes into force in April. Considering that's next month, I'm surprised there's not more concrete information available. Anyway, have a read. I'm going to see if there's anything about it on the insolvency service website.

I am correcting my post - glancing at debt doctors info - it is to be set up by "an intermediary" so this could be any of the debt advice agencies but I am sure a recent poster got very little help from the CCCS - perhaps because it is still a bit vague?

she even filled in all my forms and made an appointment for me to go to courts I was made BR on WednesdaySealed Pot Number 018 🎄2009..£950.50 🎄2010..£256 🎄 2011..£526 🎄2012..£548.80 🎄2013...£758.88🎄2014...£510 🎄2015...£604.78 🎄2016...£704.50 🎄2017...£475 🎄2018...£1979.12 🎄2019...£408.88🎄2020...£1200.63...🎄2021…£588 🎄2022 £672… 🎄2023 £3,783.90 🎄2024…£3,882.57🎄2025…£4083.🎄20260 -
Well, hopefully the other agencies will at least be briefed on its existence and who it might be suitable for. Was this (below) what Debt Doctor had on the DRO?

It sounds tailor-made for Dizzymum, however, like all new legislation, it's going to take a wee while before advisors or applicants learn their way around it.
Can't find anything on Insolvency Service website, though I did find a document that referred to plans to publish leaflets on DROs.0
