Self cleaning ovens.

Do these self cleaning ovens really work?
The ones were you turn the temperture right up high and it reduces any spillages etc. to dust that just requires sweeping up.

I had a self cleaning oven and it never self cleaned. It might have stayed cleaner the first year or so but then it was no different to any oven.

My mother has one and it apparently works fine - she just sweeps dust out - think it is a german make.
  • Definately recommend them . Our last kitchen had one and the Missus was delighted with it as it cleaned itself fine . It was some Ariston one which was pretty expensive although I`ve no idea what model it was

i've got one of these and i won't bother next time.

the side walls are ok but look out because not all the bits self-clean- so the oven bottom and top and back get grotty and then you can't use oven cleaner because that's a no no on the self cleaning bits.

I do use an oven liner that i got at lakeland plastics on the oven floor and that has helped a bit.

Mine's great, so much so that I would take it with me if I were to move. It is a tricity bendix pyrolytic one, think it cost around £350 mark about 4 years ago. Doesn't clean the shelves so I put them in the dishwasher and you can vary how long the oven is clening for depending on how grimy it is! When it is finished there is a little pile of dust on the bottom of the oven which I just sweep out and give a quick wipe over and it looks like new. Would definitely recommend.

Two kinds of self cleaning ovens

o- special coating on the inside of the oven. I have nether thought of these as self cleaning.
o- A 'program' you select and the oven goes off and cleans itself (pyro oven??). These are the dogs
